Fontina Trattoria — Restaurant in Cancún

Bad quality foods and waiter and owner trying to take our money:

Our table was the only table in that empty restaurant when we came in. The menu has limited choices. We ordered 5 items and 2 were unavailable. We ended up just ordering 3 available items as there were literally no alternatives Although the restaurant was indoor with AC, there were lots of mosquitoes and the whole time we got bitten alot The cabonara was bland with peanuts of bacon and no cheese/cream flavor at all. The buffalo chicken wings only has salty flavor We ordered a clericot and there were only a few bits of apple which you can hardly see. No red wine at all, just a glass of sugary red water The bill came and they hand-wrote a 15% tip on top of our bill. We came from Canada which has tipping culture, but this is the first time we saw tips being decided and added without even asking the customers first We explained to the waiter that we were not happy with the service and the fact that they automatically charged 15% tip and we asked for the tip to be removed. The waiter became rude and raised his voice and said something along the line that 'This is Mexico so you have to pay the tip'. We were firm that we were not paying the tip and the waiter eventually agreed to take it off. We paid them by cash and were supposed to get 100 MXN as changes. The owner took our cash and came back after 5 minutes and gave us 80 MXN by coins (mostly 1 peso, 2 peso) and 20 MXN by note. We told him we were not happy with his petty act and he...

The good reviews here had me thinking that this might be a good Italian restaurant. I was so wrong.

The service was okay, we were able to order quickly (there weren't many guests) and got the food soon after. We didn't get any cutlery though. While the place has no charm, this is of little relevance regarding the quality of the food.

We ordered a pepperoni pizza and Pasta Alfredo with fusilli. The pizza was one of the worst ones I had in my life. It had no taste and the dough was too thin and charred in some areas which made these inedible. For the pasta we got spaghetti instead of fusilli. That would've been fine if the dish was hot, instead it was lukewarm. Furthermore, it wasn't seasoned at all. Warming up a store-bought Alfredo sauce tastes better to be honest.

The only reason for my 2 stars is the fact that we haven't had any health issues afterwards. I guess we will stick to Mexican food...
