The diving locations were beautiful, staff was friendly. I had a great first dive but my wife who was also a begginer but needed a little more hand holding, did not feel comfortable and stayed behind.
We booked a diving trip through our resort Secrets The Vine. We paid $150 per person for a half day trip 9:30am to about 2pm.
The rep at the hotel, Roberto, was very helpful and friendly. He first told us there would be a short lesson in the pool, but later he told us we would do the training at the marina instead.
Upon arrive we were greeted by Axl, who was very friendly as well. We made the payment and received our gear.
The instrutor was Mario, a friendly Italian instructor. The lesson out of the water was very short, and focus on explaining the equipment and the 3 habilities we were expected to learn.
Although Mario's training style was OK for me, in my opinion he was not great for people like my wife, who was still a little afraid of the experience. He told her a few times that once we were down she would not be able to return otherwise she would ruin the trip for the rest of the group. While this tough-love approach might work for some, it made her even more uncomfortable.
The practice lesson was done at the shallow water in the marina. We practice the skills he had taught us, but there was very little time we spent 5 min max. I think if we had spend 5-10 more min practicing and getting familiar with the equipment in the water things would have gone a smoother for her.
We then headed to the first location: a underwater "museum" (statues placed under water a few years ago). The boat was old, but the crew (2 brothers) were friendly and the trip was fun (about 20 min), except for the
Once we were ready to descend, crew helped us all get in the water our gear and everything was going well.
My wife, who was already a little umcomfortable with Mario's style, descended about 2 meters, but was going faster than she hoped, so she asked to go up and stayed behind. For those that did not make it, they had snorkels available and one of the boat crew members dual tasked as a friendly snorkeling guide.
I went down with Mario and two others who were working on their certification. We had a great dive around the sunken statues and stone car. We were down about 8 meters.
We then went to the second location, where we went down about 9-10 meters to enjoy beautiful corals and fishes.
Overall, I had a great experience. My advice to venue owner is keep up the good work but perhaps use a different instructor or approach for beginners that need a little more patience. Mario: thanks for my first dive! I had a great time.
For those considering doing this for the first time: arrive early and don't drink the...
Read moreI literally can't give this scuba diving center a higher score!
I've scuba dived before in Cancun, and at the previous location we did our practice dives at the shore in the murky waters and quick-sand like beach at a different hotel. The instructors really didn't seem to care about us and spoke very broken English, which is not okay considering you can easily encounter life-threatening situations when you're underwater. It was awful.
I was hesitant to try scuba diving again in Cancun but decided to try this dive center that MUSA directed us to and I'm so glad I did! Our training was in a well-controlled environment (the hotel pool), the instructors spoke perfect English, and they all took their time to make sure our training was completely clear and understood. This is vital when you're about to go underwater and have to rely on their expertise to guide you through possibly life-threatening situations!
They drove us out to MUSA and everything was a well-oiled machine- from packing the boat, to the dive, to helping my friend who has a medical condition and can't swim well, everything was absolutely perfect. I can't recommend this place enough.
They also let us rent a Go Pro for $75 so I was able to take hundreds of photos and videos. At the end of the dive they gave us the SD card to take home to upload the photos ourselves. At our last place it was $80 and they took very low quality photos and uploaded them in bad quality! My experience from that place and this place was night and day.
Highly recommend, when I come back to Cancun my friends and I are thinking about getting PADI certified at...
Read moreA company is defined by its people. In my case, I had the fortune of encountering Arturo Pena, and it's solely because of him that you see a 5-star rating. The truth is, everything else is quite basic - the hotel is simple, the equipment may not be in the best condition or properly sanitized, and the boat is even more rudimentary. However, the diving guide was nothing short of exceptional, deserving a 10-star rating if it were possible.
Arturo's expertise shone through as I entrusted him not only with my life but also that of my 11-year-old daughter. He meticulously trained us before we ventured to the underwater museum and subsequently to Cancun's marine park. Despite facing challenges on the first day, including malfunctioning tank pressure gauges and running low on air, Arturo remained a pillar of support and professionalism.
When my daughter struggled to equalize during her first open water class, Arturo's patience and guidance were invaluable. Even though the refund policy for health-related issues was limited to a mere 20% of the total paid, Arturo's presence made these setbacks insignificant.
Arturo embodies the ideal of what customer service should be - a master of communication and simplicity. His ability to transform a potentially disappointing experience into a memorable adventure is truly remarkable. It's fair to say that Solo Buceo Cancun earns its 5-star rating primarily because of Arturo's exceptional skills as a dive master. His dedication to ensuring client safety and satisfaction elevates the entire experience, compensating for any shortcomings in equipment...
