Our last dinner in PV was here. We actually canceled reservations at another establishment to dine here. ATMOSPHERE: The open air interior decor is nothing memorable. Seating inside is a bit cramped, with a few seats out on the sidewalk. MENU: Mexican and American apps & entrees. FOOD: Chips & Salsa I've never seen a fresher salsa than this! They used fresh tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, all diced up nearly though with hardly any sauce. Mushrooms With Garlic Whole mushrooms done in a butter, garlic, and possibly wine sauce. Very tasty. Garlic Bread The soft slices were buttered and sprinkled with fresh, chopped garlic. Great taste. Melted Cheese A small cast iron pan was half-filled with some kind of gooey, white cheese and loaded with crumbled chorizo sausage. Total yum! Empanadas Horribly tasteless. 3 pieces covered in shredded lettuce. We opted for stuffings of chicken, mushrooms, and beef. Such a disappointment. Shrimp The tastiest entree of the night. 8 butterflied pieces of perfectly grilled shrimp done with garlic. The sautéed veggies were severely overcooked. DESSERT: Chocolate Cake The slice had some layers of white cream frosting and overall was super moist, borderline mushy. Better than dry! Flan I love custard, but their version was a bit grainy and not smooth. The flavor was okay but not spot-on. Pass. SERVICE: Our male server was quick but unpolished and portrayed a very sloppy image by leaning on the walls, checking his phone and counting his tips in front of guests while sitting at a neighboring table. The only time he returned to our table was when it came time for dessert. A female cook was eating out of a bowl right at the prep station in plain view of everyone. They take their customers for granted. OVERALL: Good apps, bland empanadas, unprofessional service.

Our favorite place in PVR! My boyfriend loved it so much that every time it was time to eat something he suggested this restaurant— we ended up here three times in two days. :) Great food and cheerful service from the waiters. Everything that we tried on the menu was amazing. We particularly recommend the chilaquiles! I am a chilaquiles fanatic and these were the best chilaquiles rojos I have ever had! The chicken version comes not with a typical couple slices of chicken breast which is typical for chilaquiles, but rather a very tasty tinga de pollo. The queso fundido was also super amazing! For beverages I recommend the cafe de olla (obviously) with piloncillo, jugo verde, OJ (so fresh it tastes like pure sunshine!) and the pina coladas are quite good. They are going on vacation starting 9/15 I think but will be back in a few weeks. So if you are in PVR in mid-late October definitely give this place a shot. The delicious food won’t disappoint and the prices are incredibly reasonable. The only teeny tiny negative I have is that for some reason every time we were trying to cash out it took a really long time for them to bring us the check and we had to ask multiple people to get it. I think just because it’s a bustling spot. Still worth it! Note: cash only, no cards accepted.

Café de Olla is a must-visit spot in Puerto Vallarta! Located next to the famous Pancho Takos, this cozy café exudes a relaxed and authentic vibe. I went around 11 AM, and it was quite busy, with about a 20-minute wait to get a table. Despite the crowd, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the wait was absolutely worth it. I ordered the chilaquiles and guava bread, and both were fantastic. The chilaquiles were flavorful and filling, while the guava bread was the perfect combination of sweetness and texture. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. A heads-up: this place is cash-only, so plan accordingly. The hustle and bustle add to its charm, making it a great spot for a relaxed brunch or breakfast. Highly recommend it if you’re in Puerto Vallarta and want a delicious, authentic meal in a chill setting!

I can not believe tonight the injustice I was given at Café de Olla. I have been a Loyal Client for over ten years. Tonight I waited outside for a table on their small Patio. Three of the servers made eye contact and acknowledged me waiting. Finally after about forty-five minutes the two outside tables came open I proceeded to go sit at the first table only to have the two American or Canadian men say that was their table. I then went to go sit at the next open table and was told by the waiter that was for another couple American or Canadian that was about to be seated inside. I was then told by the three waiters and the Manger fermin that I never told any of them I wanted to sit. I said excuse me you thought I was just standing there to watch you work and watch people eat and after over ten years of coming here with my dog you need me to tell you I'm got to have dinner, when I have never had to do so. I left very upset and embarrassed that I local Mexican American was just tossed aside and the English Speaking people were give preference. I can't believe this happened. Fermin the manger gave me that excuse that I didn't tell them I was there to have dinner 🤬🤬🤬 I am shocked at this I have never had a bad experience there and love their food, BUT I WILL NEVER RETURN!!!! I can Spend my...
