Our friends chose this place on a hunch for breakfast, located on the busy Malecon fronting the pier.
ATMOSPHERE: Like most places on the Malecon, seating is available on the beach or in the open-air lanai. It's dressed up with woven mats on the walls & ceiling, with tons of corn & Mexican decor hanging from the ceiling making for a fun vibe.
MENU: Mexican & American breakfast items.
FOOD: French Toast We all stared at the plate in disbelief as it was placed. It's not the thick French toast most of the world knows. It was 3 slices of regular bread, the kind that you make for your children's PB&J sandwiches, cut diagonally, bathed with a little egg wash, fried, and topped with an overload of brown sugar. Thankfully the syrup came on the side and was not needed. Almost spot-on taste but so visually unappealing.
Chilaquiles with Beef & Eggs I have never heard of this but I definitely wanted to try it after our friend explained what it was. Simply put, it was like a side of nachos but minus the guac & sour cream, served on a platter with a thin piece of steak, two eggs, and refried beans on the side. The meat was so thin it was funny that they even asked how I'd like it cooked. The combination of subtle flavors actually married well together. The red or green sauce (I got red and it wasn't spicy) is drizzled on the tortilla chips only, not the entire dish.
Cuates y Cuetas Omelette My spouse's dish. It's a mushroom, bacon, ham, cheese, onion & green pepper combo that came with sides of refried beans and overcooked breakfast potatoes & green peppers. Mainstream but done well. We haven't had a bad omelette yet in PV!
SERVICE: This was the biggest downfall of the experience. Not that we were in a rush, but for advice-sake, be forewarned. It honestly took about 30 minutes for just the French toast to come out. After our table of 5 finished that, all of our plates came out at one time about 10 minutes later, reasonably hot.
Our male server was fine, but this is the only place that we experienced difficulty with paying in US dollars. I usually pay with a large US bill and get change in Mexican pesos since we were running low. I'm not sure what the issue was, but it seemed he wanted exact payment in USD. No biggie, but an FYI.
TIP: Cash only.
OVERALL: Good breakfast, dreadfully slow...
Read moreHorrible customer service and very rude staff. Do not give them a peso as there are plenty of other businesses around the area who actually care about their customers. The place is popular because of its great views and location to the beach, but trust me, go to somewhere that you are wanted and appreciated.
The blinds that block the sun were adjusted by one of the staff and left loose and knocked a whole glass of red wine into my wife's dinner plate and all over her clothes. Her dinner that was just delivered was totally ruined. Not only did they not replace the dinner plate....or the wine, the staff were laughing at what had happened....and there was nobody else in the place!
She was with a local that has been going to this place for years that has always tipped 20% for service and she was also disgusted by what had happened. My wife had to pay full price for the meal without any apologies and had no dinner to eat. We've been a couple of times now for the sunsets and each time it's been absolutely brutal customer service and they will never get another peso from us again.
Go to Lagostinos next door instead where they will care about...
Read moreLocation? Amazing. Service? Not good. Food? Depends on what you get, I guess. We stopped here for one two drinks and a single plate of shrimp tacos to share. It took about 40 minutes for us to receive the one plate of tacos, and within that time, the server came by once to ask if I needed another drink after it had been empty for 15 mins. The restaraunt was not busy at all, otherwise I would understand. We finally received the food and the shrimp was deep fried in batter which was good but quickly realized that they left the tails on the shrimp.. so crunching through the tails was not overly appetizing at all. I mentioned it to the server at the end and he barely acknowledged it and proceeded to bring us the bill. On a $35 US bill, we tipped $2 as the overall experience was not up to par. The server pushed the money back at us and told us not to come back. We weren't planning on coming back anyway, but he definitely could have asked WHY we didn't leave a hefty tip on some pretty bad service and food that was very unappetizing....
