Ferron's Jerk Chicken — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

I’ve had this place saved and finally got a chance to try it. I rode my bike there and there wasn’t really a place to park but the guy was nice to let me lock up on the fence. I was ordering take out so I wouldn’t be long. There were hardly any customers and I was quickly greeted and led to a table but when I expressed I was ordering to go - I was shuffled back the counter. Not by the wait staff, but the lady behind the counter. I was hoping to have a drink from the bar while I ordered and waited and she didn’t seem to care. Annoyed, I stood there in the way, asking my menu questions to the new guy (he told me it was just first day). He was very helpful in answering my questions because Jerk in MX is interesting. Eventually I ordered and then paid and the manager came by to say I could sit. Now it was ok for me to sit and even offered me a drink - LOL. I declined the drink and the waiter and I chatted about his story for 10 mins while the food prepared.

I got the jerk for 2 with the Mac and mashed potatoes. The jerk was visibly cooked well, not overcooked or dry. I asked for sauce on side because I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. The sauce had a kick for sure - not really jerk but a salsa and the chicken needed it for more flavor. I’m not sure it was enough for two ppl though.

The sides, however, were definitely family size 2-4 could eat off that. The Mac had plenty of noodle but hardly any cheese - it was dry. And the creamy mashed potatoes were good but not great - very much puréed.

No veggies on the menu was bummer. And two bread rolls that were thrown on the grill to appear toasted.

I’d say, a solid 6/10 on behalf of the chicken. But I don’t think I need to come back. And since I had it to go, and ate at hotel, I didn’t get a “cute” photo...

Really rude service. We arrived 21:10, 50 minutes before closing time but the waiter (Angel?) immediately told us quite hostile that we were late instead of greeting us. Not once during eating did he check if we needed anything and when I asked for some sauce he didn’t even let me finish my sentence before he walked off. He paced around like he was super busy but there was just one other table at the restaurant. There was no reason to not come over and to have such an attitude towards us. Whilst eating the terrace was being cleared and the lights were switched off with 10 minutes before the actual closing time. Then the waiter rudely shouted “Done?” from a distance instead of coming up to us and ask in a friendly way (and maybe ask us how the food was?). We politely tried to give him feedback on how he treated us but he didn’t even let us speak and stormed off. Never experienced this kind of service. Shame because the kitchen staff was nice. Food was overpriced and didn’t have the authentic Jamaican flavors. If you are in Playa del Carmen I would recommend Rockas Jamaican Kitchen for more authentic flavors and...

El pollo jerk: Me encanta su pollo jerk. es muy jugoso y sabroso, pero no picante. tienen algunas salsas picantes en la mesa para usar. ¡pero pruébalo sin la salsa picante primero! (8,8/10, si lo esta mas picante, entonces 9/10)

el pollo frito también queda muy jugoso, muy bien sazonado y la corteza queda muy crocante. Por lo general, no como pechuga de pollo, pero la suya es una de mis favoritas. (8,4/10)

las costillas de cerdo también son deliciosas, pero me gustaría que fueran más picantes. ¡Además, la salsa de costillas que te dan al costado realmente agrega mucho sabor! Realmente me gustó esto esto también. (7,8/10, pienso que con salsa esta 8.1/10)

el puré de papas es muy singular. Es muy cremoso y tiene algo un poco dulce. Creo que funciona muy bien. (9/10)

los macarrones con queso también son muy cremosos y sabrosos. pero nada demasiado especial (7/10)

el pan de ajo estaba recién hecho. el pan era muy suave. Podría comerme cien (8,8/10)

El servicio:

el servicio es excelente nuestro camarero era Antonio. fue muy amable, y atento. fue paciente mientras decidimos qué comer, dio recomendaciones y sirvió la comida de una manera muy amable! (10/10).

la comida tardó un poco en salir, pero no demasiado. Pienso en 15-20 minutos para servirnos toda la comida. pedimos mucho por lo que es comprensible. todo estaba muy caliente y fresco.

Creo que el precio es un poco caro, pero vale cada dólar.

Recomendaré este lugar a todos! quiero ir de mañana!

All the food was delicious! What flavor! Me and my friend went for lunch and this is a review we all ate and the service:

Food first:

The jerk chicken: I love their jerk chicken. it is very juicy and tasty, but not spicy. They have some hot sauces on the table to use. but try it without the hot sauce first! (8.8/10, if it is spicier, then 9/10)

the fried chicken is also very juicy, very well seasoned and the crust is very crispy. I don't usually eat chicken breast, but yours is one of my favorites. (8.4/10)

the pork ribs are also delicious, but I wish they were more spicy. Also, the rib sauce they give you on the side really adds a lot of flavor! I really liked this this too. (7.8/10, I think that with sauce it is 8.1/10)

the mashed potatoes are very unique. It is very creamy and has something a little sweet about it. I think it works very well. (9/10)

Macaroni and cheese is also very creamy and tasty. but nothing too special (7/10)

the garlic bread was freshly made. the bread was very soft. I could eat a hundred (8.8/10)

The service:

the service is excellent our waiter was Antonio. he was very kind, and attentive. he was patient while we decided what to eat, he gave recommendations and served the food in a very kind way! (10/10).

Food took a while to come out, but not too long. I think 15-20 minutes to serve us all the food. We ask a lot so it is understandable. everything was very hot and fresh.

I think the price is a bit expensive, but it is worth every dollar.
