I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fiko, an Italian restaurant in Amsterdam, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful culinary experience! From the moment I stepped inside, I felt transported to Italy. The warm and inviting ambiance, tasteful decor, and charming Italian music created the perfect atmosphere for a memorable dining experience. The staff at Fiko were incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, adding to the overall excellent service. Now, let's talk about the food! Fiko truly excels in capturing the essence of authentic Italian cuisine. The menu offered a wide range of traditional Italian dishes, showcasing the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients and exquisite flavors. Each dish was prepared with exceptional attention to detail, and the presentation was both beautiful and appetizing. I had the pleasure of trying their homemade pasta dishes, and I was blown away. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the sauces were rich, flavorful, and made from scratch. The menu also included a variety of meat and seafood options, catering to different preferences. The portion sizes were generous, leaving me feeling fully satisfied. One aspect that stood out for me was the reasonable pricing. Despite the high-quality ingredients and impeccable preparation, the prices were surprisingly affordable, offering excellent value for money. It was clear that Fiko prioritizes providing a remarkable dining experience without breaking the bank. Whether you're a lover of Italian cuisine or simply looking for a fantastic dining experience in Amsterdam, I wholeheartedly recommend Fiko. Prepare to indulge in a true taste of Italy, accompanied by genuine hospitality and reasonable prices. Make sure to reserve a table in advance, as Fiko is undoubtedly a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. We were deeply disappointed with our New Year’s Eve dinner at your restaurant. After paying €160 per person and reserving for six, we expected a memorable dining experience—but it was far from that.

We arrived at 9 PM, but the evening quickly went downhill. We waited almost an hour just to receive menus, as the waitress forgot to provide them. After another 30 minutes, our food finally arrived, but the quality was shockingly poor. • The mussels with caviar were incomplete, with some missing the caviar entirely. • The carpaccio was unappetizing and barely resembled a proper dish. It was also frozen. • The tagliatelle with lobster was another disappointment—the lobster was empty, leaving only pasta in tomato sauce. • For the mains, the beef, requested well-done, was served raw, and the salmon was excessively oily and tasteless. My wife even felt unwell after trying it. • By the time dessert arrived at 11:45 PM, our appetite and patience were gone.

The waitress, clearly sympathetic, acknowledged our concerns and called the manager. He apologized and assured us of a full refund. However, we later received a call offering only half the amount as vouchers for the same restaurant—a poor resolution, especially as we live in Germany and are unlikely to return. When we spoke to the owner, she became defensive and unfriendly when we mentioned sharing this review.

To make matters worse, other guests around us voiced similar complaints about the service and food quality. It was clear that this wasn’t an isolated incident.

This experience was unacceptable. Instead of celebrating New Year’s Eve in a joyful and memorable way, we ended up hungry and disheartened on the streets of Amsterdam. We hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously to prevent others from enduring such an...

First, we truly enjoyed the fresh black truffle pasta at Fiko which, perhaps, was some of the best we have had outside of Italy. However, I am not one to write reviews of every restaurant at which we dine, but felt the need to point out a few things. When we arrived, we noticed that the sign declared that we would be having an “Italian Food Experience”. My husband and I are not looking for an “experience” when we are simply desiring good food and attentive service that we might not have at home. Despite this, we were hopeful and agreed to prepare ourselves for a meal like we typically have in Italy, a place we visit often.

The first observation that gave us pause was the trendy decor and especially dim lighting that is not characteristic of the best authentically Italian places to dine. Cuisine varies a lot in Italy according to the local tradition and available products. However, if one sits down in a trattoria to eat, it is assumed that they will be greeted with a basket of bread and water (still or sparkling, as desired). A small charge for seated customers might be expected, but it insures that a diner will have the basics and establishes goodwill between the guest and kitchen. Though it is not especially common for restaurants in Amsterdam to offer bread and water, we believed that the act was certainly crucial in carrying out the true Italian “experience” .

Our waiter was Italian and provided helpful wine and menu advice, but there was an issue where the hostess appeared to be putting great effort into taking care of customers waiting to place their orders. Unfortunately, the waitstaff did not appear to be assisting her in meeting diners’ needs. As a result, the service was a bit rough and might benefit from some better teamwork...
