Historical place at the first stock exchange of the world. Note the words in old Dutch at the front, which means you have to invest before earning. So true. If you visit Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, and you arrive at the central station, you can walk via “the Damrak” to the central square called “de Dam” with the Royal Palace. This building, designed to reflect the power and wealth of Amsterdam in the 17th century, is now King Willem-Alexander's official reception palace. When you are interested in business, startups and investing there is another interesting historical building that you can find on your walk from the station to the “de Dam”. After a few hundred meters you will see at your left hand, behind the canal boats, the building pictured below with on the facade the Dutch text “De Cost Gaet Voor de Baet Uyt” Trade has always been important for the Netherlands. The Amsterdam Stock exchange (founded in 1611) is considered to be the oldest stock exchange in the world. The building with the old Dutch text at the frontage originates from the end of the 18th century and used to be an office for trade information. It is now a nice restaurant with tourists and locals. This old text is more than just a historic sentence. It means something like “The costs have to be made before the benefits can be earned“. The text perfectly illustrates the basic principle of finance. One has to take a risk before money can be earned. It is the basic principle of finance, economic growth, and the banking system - and the cause of the sleepless nights of many entrepreneurs and investors.

PASS and Check your bill!!!! Better yet save your money and go somewhere else even if it's McDonald's. It's rare I'm set on 1 star but OMG necessary. Waiter was rude to EVERY table. We sat outside and could hear most of his interactions. When I asked questions about anything such as removing cucumber from my burger he immediately said I was 'difficult this girl' my other half. I had only asked the difference between a small and large glass and asked cucumber be removed from my burger 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Our burgers (being as they were the 'Grasshopper' burgers you'd assume there was something special to them) were just plain mediocre at best and I could have made them WAY better in my own backyard. They lacked everything and were just hamburger on a bun, unseasoned and my cheese wasn't melted because my burger was COLD. No purpose in asking them to put it in a microwave seeing how a medium temp was already welldone. Basically a tourist trap on the way back to the circle. The ambience was an outside canal view which was the only bonus. As far as anything else I'm glad they provide ketchup, mayo SALT and pepper .... It's NEEDED!!!! BE AWARE and check your bill!!!! Our waiter added alcohol such as beer and wine we didn't order. He had someone else try to check us out who then said 'oh yeah check with your waiter'. Our waiter came over and gave the same price which we then had to ask those came off our bill. He thought for a few and proceeded to remove from our check (only after horribly trying to act as if he actually served us these). Yeah .... You're actually busted.

Stopped by this place thinking it was promising. Outside in the patio is a great atmosphere, but needless to say, it ends there. I ordered a draught Guinness and a mango mojito for the wife. Beer was bottled and the mojito tasted like mango, no alcohol. For 14€, better have some alcohol in there but she couldn’t taste it. As for the food, ordered the fish and chips. We got the food 3 min after ordering and it was horrible. Batter was burnt and the fish had absolutely o flavor. Fries were horrible also. And to top it off, the bill came and they gave us mints, or so I thought they were mints. It tasted like a cough drop and what do you know, that’s exactly what it was. Picture to prove it! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone unless they really want to be disappointed. It is way overpriced for the service and food you get! I gave it a one star because a half a star is not available to select.

I came to the grasshopper for the first time after hearing about it from my parents when they came years before, it was apparently a really good smoking venue with tourists from around the world coming to visit however we came for food as it was my partners birthday and thought it would be one of the best places to go due to its previously great reputation. I was sadly very mistaken. We reserved a spot earlier that day but when we arrived we were just placed anywhere, we sat for 30 minutes before anyone asked for our order meanwhile staff were on there phones and not really attentive to anyone that was there and talking amongst themselves. We were given 2 lots of dirty cutlery and asked twice to change them. After receiving our orders a further 30 minutes later we were presented with a mediocre looking plate however I dived into the steak, all of us ordering medium rare, expecting to be bombarded by flavour but it just tasted like a bland slab of meat, absolutely ridiculous for the price. My friend who also ordered the same as me got a steak that was well over done, no red meat to be seen. After we finished our meal my friend was then eventually addressed about the steak after waiting a further 20 minutes to get any of the staffs attention. We waited another 30 minutes for the correct food to be cooked and brought to the table. After multiple complaints and literally everything going wrong I slightly expected to receive some compensation like a small discount but we were charged full price and I felt absolutely awful for my partner who just had a really stale pricey experience. I will not be going back to that venue unfortunately and highly discourage anyone else going there for a special occasion or comfort food. There is plenty of brilliant places in Amsterdam to go! Just don’t get bogged down by this...
