The Last Word — Restaurant in Christchurch

A respectful speakeasy themed cocktail bar in the midst of Christchurch’s regenerating CBD, we had a welcome last stop here on the way home. When venturing inside the inviting interior, we were warmly greeted and offered to take a table of our choosing by the barkeep. He soon joined us at the table with menus and pitchers of water, and we were left to decide on our beverages.

The cocktail list seemed very well constructed, a real range of bespoke ingredients and spirits on offer with unique-sounding combinations, as well as a profusion of whiskies, wines and other drinks. Plenty of sensible food accompaniments to choose from too such as olives and cheeses.

If you look at the reviews I do, in the main I am "that 5 star guy", in essense I mainly just rate the places that stand out to me. I have frequented the last word quite a few times and it has always been really good - but tonight they impressed the @#$% out of me. My wife and a friend had a less than great experience here a couple of months back, which suprised me a little as I had always found the place to be good. Tonight we called in for a quick drink on the way into town. As we went to settle the bill they;-

1. recognised my wife after a couple of months
2. apologised for the previous experience and explained the cause of it
3. bought us our drinks totally out of the blue.

This is utterly awesome customer service and if I could give the last word 6 stars for this single act of excellent customer...

Went here for a chill night out with my father - we both had a great and super pleasant time. The service is great, attentive and friendly, with good senses of humour. We ordered a cheese platter which we both agreed was delicious - great quality of ingredients and very reasonably priced. The drinks were well-made, again with high quality ingredients and very reasonable prices. No obnoxiously loud music and pleasant low-ish lighting that doesn't hurt the eyes. Special thank you to our server - don't know his name but he had a french accent and was really nice and onto it, as well as the lady we had at the very end of the night and the friendly American guy at the counter when we went to pay - you all have amazing vibes and seem so nice and I hope you all have a...
