I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt this was important for other customers to know. I visited today for dinner with my family, and while we were fine with a brief wait, the service was disappointing. We were told our food would take 20-30 minutes, but after an hour, we still hadn't received it. During the wait, we asked one server twice to check on our order, as we hadn’t been given a number when we paid after ordering food. The restaurant needs to improve their system, as the servers kept asking other tables for their numbers, and that’s when we realised we needed a table number as well. Unfortunately, she didn’t pay attention on updating us.
When we finally asked the initial server how much longer we’d have to wait, we were told our food was ready, but they said they couldn’t find us so they just left the food on the bench. This didn’t make sense, as both servers had walked by our table multiple times and even spoken with us. There was no apology for the delay or confusion. In the end, we were left with cold food and wasted time that could have been better spent enjoying our family dinner.
I understand that it can get busy, but the lack of customer service was frustrating. The food itself was ok, but with this kind of service, I’m not sure I’ll...

The mazesoba is the true highlight, this restaurant has absolutely nailed it. The thick, chewy noodles are cooked perfectly and coated in a rich, savory sauce. Mixing them with fresh, vibrant toppings like minced meat, scallions, and a poached egg creates a harmony of flavors and textures that’s both creative and deeply satisfying.
What really sets this place apart is the freshness of their sides - takoyaki, karaage chicken, and gyoza. While many Japanese restaurants in Auckland rely on frozen ingredients, everything here is made fresh, and you can really tell they value a good quality meal. The takoyaki was crisp on the outside and tender inside, with perfectly cooked pink octopus. The karaage chicken was juicy and served with a unique yogurt sauce that added a refreshing twist. The gyoza had a beautifully pan-fried exterior with rich, flavorful fillings.
This restaurant stands out for its attention to quality and authenticity. Highly recommended for anyone craving fresh, authentic Japanese cuisine!
Definitely a place...
Read moreThis mazesoba spot in Takapuna is worth a visit. Conveniently located, it offers a unique Japanese dining experience with separate seating designed for solo diners. I visited with my partner to explore this interesting setup.
Although the place is small, it also has a few tables at the back for families or groups.
We ordered the Original Chicken Mazesoba and the Beef Mazesoba. Both dishes were delicious! The Chicken Mazesoba had a stronger flavour, thanks to its rich sauce, while the Beef Mazesoba featured tender beef pieces and a well-balanced sauce, which I really enjoyed.
However, the staff weren’t particularly friendly and seemed unorganized, likely because the restaurant had only been open for two weeks. The overall atmosphere wasn’t impressive. Hope it will be improved when I visit again next time.
That said, the mazesoba was delicious and worth trying. I’d still...
