Service was fine and promt, food was tasty...however I was so embarrassed by the couple of strands of seaweed salad they served. It would have been better left off the plate. The sushi was fine, very thinly cut and wasn’t served with ginger or wasabi. The scotch fillet was the saving grace and nicely cooked, served with a delicious sauce on top. The $36 price tag did not justify the meal at all!! The rice bowl wasn’t even filled to the top , they also do serve you a SMALL salad before the meal. Nothing worth photographing. The high price and lack there of meal has me astounded. Will not be retuning or recommending. Asahi Japanese in bakehouse lane Orewa is a far better restaurant featuring lower prices and greater portion size.

It felt like a very authentic Japanese experience. The service was excellent with cultural niceties that Japanese service industry is well known for. Food was very good, a Japanese experience that shouldn't be missed! Seating was a little tight where we were, this looks like it is table dependant and we did come without a booking so we appreciate getting a seat despite the squeeze in. NB: Please do yourself a favour and don't expect Chinese cuisine from a Japanese restaurant. If in doubt, ask nicely but please don't embarrass yourselves by demanding it as our neighbouring table did..

Beautiful restaurant, very friendly family owned business and absolutely delicious Japanese food. We really felt like we were in Kyoto Japan. Hayami is a wonderful experience. A must do in Auckland. We have certainly become regulars 😉 I highly recommend booking in advance. Craving something light for dinner, we thought we'd ty this highly rated Japanese venue. Unfortunately no Udon (or ramen) noodle soups on their dinner menu so we ordered the teriyaki salmon at $34.50. Seemed pricey, and when received saw that the value was in the portion of the salmon. Unfortunately the salmon was slightly over cooked for both of us and the teriyaki sauce wasn't the best in flavour, overpowering and with a thicker glaze than what we are used to. The fried muscles on the side were OK but I would rather a proper salad portion. I asked about cooked fish sushi options as I'm pregnant but the only sushi option for me was teriyaki chicken, which was bland and uninspiring. We eat Japanese weekly back in Sydney and at much more affordable ($18-$22 for similar teriyaki salmon plate) so I'm really surprised this place has such...

I’d really like to give this restaurant 5 stars because their food is absolutely delicious, I love their extensive menu and they are soo friendly! But I came here on a Saturday night at around 8:45pm and they said sorry we’re closed now and they were ready to walk out the door, when their hours say they close at 9:30pm, it was just a let down as we had made the trip from Albany deciding this Japanese restaurant was the better option than the one down there, and ended up missing out on both. Another time I called on a Thursday night at 7pm asking to place a takeaway order and they said sorry we’re only doing dine in. Just annoying experiences with this restaurant unfortunately, although I have dined in on two occasions and...
