The Ship and Anchor — Restaurant in Hibiscus and Bays

Took the hubby and kids to The Ship and Anchor a few days ago. We are working our way through the restaurants in Orewa and on Sunday I had a feeling about this place so this one was up next and boy did it not disappoint! Great theme and decor, really cool sea prints on the tables. Bathroom fine and clean. Great service, especially Aman, really great young man! Now let's get to the food, oh my god, this was some of the best food we have ever eaten anywhere (in the world) unbelievably fresh and delicious. We hadn't eaten much all day so were starving and ordered a feast! The shrimp cocktail was amazing (had to order this, I mean where do you ever see this on a menu anymore!) we also had Buffalo wings, garlic bread (all yum). Mains we ordered salmon & mushroom risotto (salmon slightly over cooked to our liking, but thats probably personal preference, the rissoto was very nice) schooner burger (no complaints from our 13 yr old), carribean pizza (this was me and omg this was incredible a whole meal of seafood & cheese & Chilli on nice thin crust). The main of the night was the seafood fettuccine my 16 yr old ordered (kind of had order envy but the pizza was soooo good) this was unbelievable, so much fresh seafood and even came with 2 slices of garlic bread. Have been to Ship and Anchor a few times when visiting family. I'm not a big eater so I chose an entree of scallops with side of fries, I shared the fries with another family member who also is not a big eater. Six scallops presented were a good size, plump and juicy with a soy based tasty dressing. We then shared a creme brulee, firm caramel on top of a smooth custard, it was light, met our expectations and didn't over fill our tummies. The scotch and dry served from the bar in a short glass was just what I needed to compliment my dinner. The only downside is that the restaurant can be quite noisy and I was suffering from laryngitis when attending for a special birthday celebration and I found it difficult to be heard. An elderly family member without an illness had the same trouble but the great service and excellent food made up for this. Despite previous experiences being great and receiving great food on multiple occasions, a recent order has left me wondering if I should ever bother giving them my money again. I ordered the steak through Uber Eats (which I had done previously and enjoyed, hence why I ordered again) - which is supposed to come with mushroom sauce, chips and salad - and received a steak drowning in oil with maybe one piece of mushroom (if that), and the salad wasn't even with the order. Wrote this as feedback and didn't receive any acknowledgement and am highly disappointed, as I was excited to keep giving them my business.

During one of my in-house dining experiences, one of the wait staff who was clearing off some tables kept staring at us as he went past which did make me a little uncomfortable, but not enough to put me off.

Ultimately I would recommend dining in, rather than ordering delivery, as it seems they're happy to take approximately $50 of your hard-earned money and give you low-quality, half prepared...
