House of Good Fortune — Restaurant in North Island

Great quirky cafe a block back from the main shopping street in Petone. Very friendly and welcoming staff. There is a good range of food quality home made food in the counter cabinets (including delicious pies), or a small menu to order from if you’re feeling hungry. Good coffee (of course), although I would say the hot chocolates could be improved with the option of dark or regular (their own powders) and using smaller cups, not the tall glasses, or at least asking which size customers want. As an adult who doesn’t drink coffee these are my go-to drink! But I know most cafes don’t worry too much about these.

They are even dog-friendly I believe, so I’ll have to bring my pooch along next time.

I didn't have anything in here, I just popped in to buy hot chocolate for home. My first time in here, looked really funky and lots of random bits that you can buy as gifts as well as coffee, hot chocolate for home. They had food cabinets, I didn't get anything as I was there after lunch to quickly grab the hot hot chocolate which is so delicious! What I did see of the food looked yum though. If it's your first time going it is a little tricky to find and you'll think you're in completely the wrong place but then you'll suddenly see a little house in-between the panel beaters, sign writers etc. They are only open weekdays so will have to go in to try some food next time I...

I bought two packs of Good Fortune coffee beans at Petone PNS, and these are hands down the worst coffee beans I've ever purchased. The packaging is very appealing, but when I opened it, I couldn't smell any coffee bean aroma. During extraction, the flow rate is extremely fast, even when I adjusted the grind size to the lowest setting (1). I even switched to another coffee grinder, but the result remained the same. I usually buy Havana beans from Petone PNS year-round, and I've never encountered such an issue before. Both packs I bought are the same, and they are completely unusable. I will never...
