I had the misfortune of dining at Koiya recently, and I must say, it was an utterly disappointing experience from start to finish. Where do I even begin?

Firstly, the ambiance was nothing short of dismal. The decor looked outdated and tired, creating an atmosphere that was more reminiscent of a forgotten 80s diner than a Japanese eatery. The lighting was harsh and uninviting, making it difficult to even muster up the enthusiasm to peruse the menu.

Speaking of the menu, the selection was underwhelming, to say the least. It seemed like they were trying to cover all bases with a mishmash of Japanese dishes, but in reality, they failed to excel in any particular category. The sushi options were lackluster, with stale fish and uninspired flavor combinations that left much to be desired.

As for the service, it was abysmal. The staff seemed disinterested and indifferent, providing minimal attention to our table. Our orders took an eternity to arrive, and when they finally did, they were served haphazardly, with little regard for presentation or proper etiquette.

To add insult to injury, the food itself was downright awful. The sushi rice was mushy and overcooked, while the sashimi was disappointingly bland and tasteless. It was evident that no care or attention to detail went into the preparation of these dishes, resulting in a culinary experience that was utterly forgettable.

In conclusion, I would strongly advise against dining at Koiya. From the lackluster ambiance to the dismal service and subpar food quality, there is absolutely nothing redeeming about this establishment. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a more reputable Japanese restaurant for a truly satisfying dining experience and the ramen was watery like...

Just supermarket level food. the chicken I had was super dry and rice was soaked. How dare you ask to have a respectable review to the store? Providing this kind of terrible food is an insult to the customer. You can survive just because you are in New Zealand. Even 1 star is too many for this restaurant!

update: remember it is an insult to the customers by provide such low quality food. do whatever you like! see you in the court!

update: wait for my lawyer to contact yours

update: why did you edit your reply and removed what you wrote? are you so afraid to show what you posted?

update: then why don't you post it back?

update: while you are waiting my lawyer's letter, I suggest you go back to the kitchen and think about how to improve the skill. or better to look for some cooking courses online.

update: post the original response back

update: You know your original response is inappropriate as a business owner. Otherwise, why did you remove it. You'd better to take the hospitality 101 course and the instructor should be very happy to teach you the correct way to response a compliant. Have your lawyer suggested you should response properly after you consulted what you can do with this review with him?

update: apologize is...

1 star for one of the worst service we've received. The manager on duty forgot to put our order through. We waited for at least 30mins and was about to walk out after mentioning this to them multiple times. We only ordered 3 items (Udon, Soba, Bento) nothing out of ordinary for the 3 of us plus my toddler. We realised something wasn't right when we saw a couple who came in later than us, got their orders first and even finished, left and yet we were still waiting. Asked the duty manager for the reason, while she admitted the mistake and apologised but it was still most disappointing. We were hungry and waited patiently and was ignored. Your other floor staff member should have picked this up as well? An a apology isn't really good enough. Most unprofessional and no sincerity. You should at least act like you care? You can also express this by giving us something in return like a small side or a discount (while we never asked for anything) but small things can go a long way. Hence 1 star rating. Never...

This Japanese restaurant is incredibly popular, especially during lunchtime, resulting in a crowded dining area. I have ordered seafood ramen. The meal I had was surprisingly delicious, even though the noodles used appeared to be of a cheaper quality. The chef's talent shines through as they skillfully transformed these noodles into a tasty dish, which is truly commendable. The mushrooms used in the dish were of good quality and had a fresh taste, and the shrimp was also prepared nicely. The restaurant has done an excellent job in organizing the limited space they have, making the most out of it for a comfortable dining experience. The staff members were friendly and contributed to the overall positive ambiance of the place. All in all, it's evident that the restaurant's popularity is well-deserved, and they have managed to create a delightful dining experience despite the challenges of the crowded space.

This Japanese restaurant was a delightful experience. My partner and I stumbled upon it while searching for a good udon place near Queen St. Located on High Street, it was conveniently easy to find, and a beautiful interior design immediately drew us in. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. I ordered the Kakiage Udon, while my partner ordered the Karaage Don served with Miso Soup. The udon was superb, with a generous serving of vegetables, delicious soup, and perfectly cooked tempura, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The Karaage was tender and crispy, and we particularly enjoyed the spicy mayonnaise as we personally ordered it a little more spicy. Overall, the meal was satisfying, and considering each dish was under $20 for dinner, it was also quite competitively priced. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delightful Japanese dining experience! 👏

(Edited after Second Visit): First visit: The food quality is generally impressive, with the curry prawns and chicken katsu deserving 5 stars each. The miso udon soup, however, was a bit of a letdown at only 2 stars. The staff were attentive, respectful, and considerate throughout. The only downside is the limited space, as the dining area feels quite cramped. Second visit: Ordered the curry prawns again (still excellent!) along with the okonomiyaki and takoyaki, both spot on in flavor and texture. Two thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻 This time, we went around 12:50 pm and it’s not that cramped compared to our previous visit.
