Overall, kind of mid I'm not gonna lie.
Food was alright, not the best KFC I've had, because of its quality. the chicken we ordered was the platter of 4 wings, 2 large pieces, and like 6 nibbles. the nibbles were alright except for one where there was a bone in... none of the others however. the crust on the outside of the chicken is very hard, quite difficult to bite through and not very pleasant as a result. sides were kind of bad actually. the tteokbokki had a very strange and abnormal consistency in my opinion, they were also submerged in a strange sauce I can't even describe how it tasted, just not what I expected. their cheese pull goes crazy though. the beef bulgogi was alright, overcooked to heck and also a lot fo cabbage (more than beef).
service was OK, I think the first guy serving us is very new. like VERY new. he asked if we were ready to order, we said no, and he kind of just stood there and watched is read the menu awkwardly.
atmosphere sucks on a rainy day. DO NOT COME HERE IF IT'S RAINING. there are holes in the corners of the ceiling that water WILL drop through. they have drenched towels at these points of leakages, but they will splash onto you if you are close, which happened to us. so beware. they had heaters though, so a plus, and also an umbrella rack (an underrated addition to any resturuant imo)
we however, unfortunately, did not try their cocktails, I feel lkke thats the main attraction here, the $11 cocktail. but we weren't feeling it, so...
Read moreAlways keen to try a new Korean fried chicken place, I was excited to get out to My Fried Chicken in Newmarket. Starting with a round of fried chicken, we ordered The OG (crispy with herbs and spices), Maple (maple syrup, butter, garlic, Korean soy sauce), and Thunderbird (spicy). The OG kept my primary-aged son happy, with the seasoning just right. Maple was a new fried chicken flavour for me, and didn’t disappoint with that classic maple syrup taste providing a sweet option for those looking for one. I wanted to try the Thunderbird, and if you can handle spicy Korean noodles, and like a hot challenge, it’s a good choice. As a side, we had the Drunken Fries with an aioli dip. I really liked the large cut of these fries. For the second round, we ordered the Scampi, Raw Beef Gimbap (Korean sushi), and Crispy Eggplant. The scampi was cooked to perfection, the Gimbap was a fusion experience of raw beef with fish roe on top, and the fried eggplant complimented the two with a sweet ginger dip. We finished off with a take on classic Korean street food: Rice Cake Skewer. This is fried rice cake simmered in a Korean chilli sauce (not too hot though). The bar has an impressive selection, including New Zealand craft beers. The staff were friendly throughout, and always willing to explain the menu and check in on how...
Read moreI recently made a group booking for 28 people at My Fried Chicken in Newmarket, and I honestly loved everything about the experience. From the moment I made the initial enquiry, the service was exceptional. Communication with Sol, one of their staff members, was fantastic—professional, friendly, and incredibly accommodating. She made adjustments to our booking with ease and always ensured everything was on track leading up to the night.
On the night itself, we were seated in the outer covered space area, which was set up perfectly to comfortably fit our large group. Sol and Mary, another amazing staff member, handled our group’s orders flawlessly. We opted for bottomless drinks, and they made sure the drinks kept flowing at a great pace, all while staying attentive and cheerful throughout the night.
The food? Absolutely delicious. Every single person in the group had a great time. The staff even took song requests, creating such a fun and welcoming vibe that made everyone feel right at home. There was never a moment of stress or attitude—just genuine hospitality with smiles all around.
A huge thank you to My Fried Chicken for taking our booking and especially to Sol and Mary for going above and beyond to make our night unforgettable. We’re all...
