Sunday brunch on a rare, sunny day in Welly. It wasn’t crazy busy at 10am, although most tables were filled. My flat white was ok, but the main attractions were definitely the food! Green eggs (two fried eggs, gremolata on toast) were perfectly fried with crispy undersides and wobbly, oozing orange yolks. The gremolata was herbaceous and fresh. Though ordinarily served on sourdough, I opted for the seed toast. Good decision! Dense, chewy dark slices of pumpernickel-esque bread was exactly what I wanted. Also had a bite of the waffles with coconut yoghurt. The waffle was chewy, springy and tasted almost like a sourdough batter. Sprinkled with poppyseeds, tangy elderflower syrup and a light dusting of icing sugar, it was a grown up version of the floppy blocks from childhood. The coconut yoghurt was fluffy with thin ribbons of coconut flesh. It was decadent without being too much.

Astonishing development! Loretta is the first restaurant we’ve ever been to (and we’ve asked the question of at least a hundred) which has said “yes” to having a non-alcoholic wine on it’s list… It was a sparking wine, and my partner enjoyed her glass very much. Congratulations to Loretta on their first and I hope they add a zero white and rose to their list (McGuigans are not bad). And if they can find a drinkable red that would be an achievement. Our plate-sized pizzas were just right and the surprising combination of wood-fired peach, pancetta, stracciatella, balsamic, and basil was delicious. Dark chocolate mousse was wonderful. Speaking of wonderful. we were treated really well by the team and in particular Zoe and Lena who gave us a great table in the window. Even on a rainy Sunday evening it was fun watching the world go by.

My sister recommended this place and I was excited to try the menu with my girlfriend. Came here on 29th of October 2021 at 6pm, we started with the potato flat bread and I thought it was very nice and said to myself that is a good start until we get to the mains and ordered a steak. Definitely a thumbs down. Steak came burnt way over well done and bitter and the salad is not edible its got too much anchovies which makes it very salty and bitter. also if I may add the peach tea was bland. I'm not the type of guy to complaint just to get a discount so I went to pay for the meal and was not even asked how my meal was. I then said I just wanted to let you know that the steak meal was not great. then after I told the staff the problem, the response I received was just "okay." and that to me says a lot about their service. This is the last day of our 2 week vacation and the first time I've had a bad meal and service definitely not going back to this place 👎 Go to the flying burrito brothers instead they have good desert lol. 😆

Downgrading my 5 star to 1 stars on account of new owner tomfoolery. The new @lorettaoncuba breakfast menu. Why?!? Why do new owners you fix what ain’t broke 😢 No scones. No cheese scones. No sales for you. Before you come back at me with “ideas or give it a chance”…. No. Two people at the table next to me just asked for scones, got the news and walked out. This might be the worst breakfast menu upgrade / downgrade I’ve seen in a long time. Enough to motivate me take to Instagram after years of not bothering 😂 UPDATE: you can still find scones and poached eggs across the at Olive… I popped into Loretta to check if they had resolved the broken menu. Nope. It was like a ghost town in there - all the old regulars I’d been seeing for years were also not there. Sad my half decade routine with my chums has killed by amateurs.

I’ve yet to see an Asian Fusion dessert menu that makes me stay on for desserts, so after a fabulous dinner elsewhere, we strolled along to Loretta’s for their dessert menu. My daughter and fiancé have obviously done this before as I pretty much heard what was on the menu, and what were the favourites before we arrive. In the end, we order 2 and half desserts to be shared between 3, and they did not disappoint. Open form pie, 2-tone New York chocolate cheesecake, and a scoop of salted caramel ice cream (I think!), and a cup of fresh mint tea comes to $32. It’s a large, long space, which has the bar and open kitchen down one side, and homemade preserves for sale too. A lovely spot, and another restaurant that I’d love revisit for something other than dessert.

Came because I’ve heard great things about their waffles. Our whole table ordered it and added bacon on top. Honestly we just didn’t get it. The first bite was alright but it went downhill from there. The waffle gets soggy and extremely sour from the pool of Manuka honey and lemon syrup. I love bacon with waffles but here it just didn’t mesh together with the sourness. Waffle itself didn’t taste like much. Also extremely overpriced for what it was. With the bacon add on it came to $26 which is on the higher side for a plate of waffles.. It may have just been an off day for the kitchen as I know their waffles are known to be top tier. We may have been better ordering a range of dishes from their menu.
