Turaka isn't your average Lagos spot.
This rooftop lounge located within the Ebonylife Place building had me saying "hold my beer" (well, cocktail) and coming back twice in a week.
There was a slight snag on my first visit - the passionfruit drinks I craved were out, but hey, things happen.
Let's be real: the cocktails here are the star. I was bummed about the passionfruit situation, but the Mai Tai I ended up with? Absolute fire. Everything just clicked perfectly.
Second visit, I went straight for the Savage 101 – a spicy gin drink that's NO JOKE. Fire on fire, people! If you can't handle the heat, this one's not for you. But for spice lovers, it's a must-try.
The food is solid and satisfying. We shared the Meat Feast for 4, and let me tell you, it was HUGE. More than enough for three hungry people. The pepper sauce could be better though but everything else hits the spot perfectly.
The real star of the show is the rooftop. Nice breeze, not crowded, cool music and killer views of the Atlantic – perfect for chilling and soaking it all in. The staff were super chill and attentive too, always checking in to make sure we were good.
Bonus points for the clean bathrooms – you know a place is good when they take care of the little things. There's even indoor seating if the rooftop vibe isn't your thing.
Worth the Trip? Abso-freakin-lutely! Overall, Turaka is a great spot for a night out. The cocktails are amazing, the views are stunning, and the service is on point. It's a solid option for a fun night out, although it's not the absolute cheapest. I'll definitely be back for more items...
Read moreWe came here a couple of times when we stayed at the White Orchid hotel.
We really enjoyed the food here and would definitely eat here again, but I do need to point out a couple of issues others need to be aware of related to our first visit, we had serious concerns about returning a second time:
My partner ordered a "spiced martini". According to their own menu, this is "A harmonious blend of flavors with the combination of gin, Martini Rosso, fresh ginger juice, simple syrup and lemon juice, garnished with cinnamon sticks to enhance the aroma and add a touch of warmth." What we received was a drink full of something incredibly spicy like Tabasco sauce or maybe even worse. It was nothing at all like what we'd ordered. I've included a photo, not a cinnamon stick to be seen, it was way too hot to drink. When we queried this the server implied this was our mistake, when we asked for it to be replaced by a simple gin and soda the response was to laugh and say "are you sure you're not going to send this back"? How incredibly rude and disrespectful! To add insult to injury, both the "spiced martini" and the gin/soda were included on our bill ..... unbelievable!
I have no idea what the DJ was thinking, but why does he think people want to listen to music containing terms derogatory to women, especially when there were children there as well? There is a lot of great music in the world to choose from, why play this kind of stuff?
So yeah, the food is great, but the service and music need some...
Read moreWe ordered this lobster from Turaka and it was one our my biggest mistakes ever.
First it was the unpleasant smell that came with it. Initially I thought it was just the sauce but it had such a strong stench that i had to tell the waiter to ask the chef what it was made of. The waiter said a mix of white wine and some other things that i cannot remember.
First the look and presentation was a total eye-sore. I however didn’t take a picture of how it came with the Irish Potatoes.
I have eaten lobsters at several restaurants but this one was a total shock to me. I’ve been to Turaka severally but never have i smelt anything so horrible.
I thought i couldn’t see properly because it was dark and assumed it wasn’t that bad so we told the waiter to pack it so i can take home.
As if this wasn’t enough, i then ordered peppered snails and Singapore noodles. Omg!. The snails was not peppered at all. Almost like it had been warmed severally and then they just put it in a very old stew mix. What i tasted was definitely not peppered snails!!. They need to learn how to make snails from The Vibe.
It’s almost like they’ve changed their chef and employed and amateur. There’s just something about Nigerian businesses and not maintaining standards. Ebony Life really needs to do better!
Also heard that there is no accommodation provision for their staff and they are left to sleep in the...
