I'm not convinced that many reviews here may be mistaking this place for the Dovrehallen Restaurant downstairs (or vice versa), but it may be worth checking their reviews also.
It's easy to miss (I walked past it twice trying to find it) and it's not obvious it's an upstairs room until I caught the sign to the side pointing up the stairs.
The overall décor feels like someone's dimly-lit front room, quite relaxing and homely. I was invited to take a seat and immediately presented with an array of condiments and a drinks menu - so partook in a pint of their local lager. I found the waitress a bit stern and functional, as though she had been called in on her day off or resented working there. I read earlier reviews that service can be that way, but overall I didn't encounter any outright rudeness. I don't recall them having Wifi either.
For meal choices, I had pork in sauce - medallions of pork in a rich gravy, accompanied by a baked potato and a side salad with some pink dressing drizzled (I could have done with the dressing to the side). It was a cheap meal which did okay, but but not hugely welcoming service - I didn't feel as though they were particularly desperate for customers so don't have any...
Read moreI really hate leaving bad reviews, but my experience was truly horrendous. Our waitress did not have all her faculties and I honestly couldn’t tell if she was drunk, on substances, or truly missing a few marbles. She brought my friend the wrong drink, then brought us the wrong meals. Took forever to replace my friend’s meal, but never brought me the item I ordered. Then when it came to paying, she kept asking us what we wanted to pay for. We’d tell her what we actually ordered/consumed and she’d walk away for a good 10 to 15 minutes before coming back to ask us what it is that we had…again. She did this a total of five times before another waitress finally begrudgingly came over to cash us out. The other waitress was also unnecessarily rude to us for just wanting to pay. If this had been a good meal, I could have forgiven the bad service…but the food was just gross. Like other reviewers have stated, the vegetables were from the freezer aisle of a grocery store — unseasoned. The meat was dry and tough. The only good thing on my plate were the boiled potatoes (but it’s hard to mess up potatoes). I don’t know who these people paid to rank so high for “good” and “authentic” Norwegian food, but visitors beware....
Read moreMe and my friend visited Oslo on a day-trip and we were looking for some authentic Norwegian dishes to eat, so we went into this restaurant. Five out of five stars. The place is a bit hidden, since it is on the first floor, and the entrance from the street is through a really narrow corridor followed by a staircase. The inside of the restaurant has a vintage vibe to it, and the walls inside are decorated with old movie posters. The interior may seem a little bit dark at first glance, but you can get a table next to one of the windows looking down to Storgata (we arrived there around 13:00 on a Saturday, and besides ours there was only one more table that was taken). They serve simple but delicious meals for a fraction of the price one could spend in other restaurants in more touristy areas (checked it). I ordered a fried halibut with some potatoes and cucumber salad and a pint of Norwegian beer, and paid a little bit over 300 NOK. The service was really nice as well, so we left a tip before leaving. If you wish to eat some inexpensive Norwegian meal near the downtown area in Oslo, this is the place to do so. Highly...
