Biffhuset Skarven — Restaurant in Tromsø

An excellent place to try the unusual, local menu.

This is a «fine cuisine» restaurant. Bit it is not too pricey, considering notably that you are savoring some truly unusual, extraordinary- dishes (whale, reindeer…). After all, you are paying 10$+ for that famous hot-dog, which is supposed to be made partly with reindeer meat (which part, I wonder… ?)

Btw, I thought that whale would be like fish (even though it is not a fish). But I discovered that it is meat, a form of steak. Tasty, out of the ordinary, and quite interesting. But just like reindeer (which tastes like game meat) you cannot eat too much if it, so don't worry if the served portions seem to be small, you will feel full once you finish your plate - which comes with delicious toppings, presented in an artistic way - .

Very nice decoration and ambiance, also. And an excellent service, but a seriously trained staff.

A good place to have a solid, hearty dinner, and then go for a - digestive - walk in the streets of Tromsø, which become much less crowded (while they remain sunny during this season) in the evening, when most of the transit visitors are gone, and the joyful animation is concentrated in...

Walk-ins Available👍 We did not reserve a table for dinner in Tromsø, so we were turned down by many restaurants. Luckily, we were able to find a table for two here. We ordered the Grilled Minke Whale and Grilled Sirloin of Reindeer. Before trying the Grilled Minke Whale, we expected it to taste fishy, but it turned out to be absolutely delicious. It is definitely worth trying. The Grilled Sirloin of Reindeer was equally impressive. The meat was tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. It was a unique and delightful experience that we highly recommend. However, we do not recommend the Baileys Coffee. The flavor was overpowering and did not complement the meal well. It might be better to stick with their other drink options. Overall, this restaurant provided a memorable dining experience with its unique dishes and welcoming atmosphere. We had a great experience at this grill. We walked in and were given the last reservation for the evening (9 pm). Worked out perfect for us as the place was relatively quiet on a beautiful winter evening.

After catching an amazing glimpse of the northern lights right outside the restaurant, we got started with the teams recommendation of a glass of an Italian wine, and to our surprise, the producer of the wine who was dining at the same restaurants handed us our glasses. Was such a pleasant surprise!

We specifically wanted to try their reindeer so our order was fairly straight-forward! A delicious serving of Garlic gratinated shrimp from Lyngen, grilled sirloin of reindeer at their recommended temperature, and clipfish of pollock from Halvors Tradisjonsfisk. Food overall was absolutely excellent accompanied by excellent service.
