Nestled in the heart of Tromsø, Skarven Pub is a true gem for those seeking an authentic taste of Northern Norway. With its warm ambiance, friendly service, and exceptional culinary offerings, this pub is a favorite among both locals and visitors.
The Star Dish: Skarven Fish Soup
The Skarven fish soup is nothing short of exceptional. Creamy, rich, and loaded with fresh, locally-sourced fish and seafood, it’s a perfect representation of the Arctic’s culinary treasures. The flavors are hearty and comforting, making it an ideal choice on a chilly Tromsø evening.
However, there’s one small wish: the soup is served with a single slice of bread, but 2-3 slices would truly elevate the experience. The bread is so good and pairs perfectly with the creamy soup that having more would make the dish even more satisfying. A small addition, but one that would make a big difference!
The Beer: Dead Cat IPA
The Dead Cat IPA is an absolute must-try for beer lovers. Its bold, hoppy profile with just the right touch of bitterness is perfectly balanced, and its smooth finish makes it a great companion to any dish. This locally crafted beer is a standout and adds an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. Paired with the fish soup, it’s an unbeatable combination.
Atmosphere
Skarven Pub offers a cozy and rustic ambiance, capturing the spirit of Tromsø in its decor and vibe. Whether you’re visiting for a casual drink or a full meal, the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to feel at home. It’s the kind of place that invites you to linger, enjoying good food, drinks, and company.
Final Thoughts
Skarven Pub delivers an outstanding Tromsø experience, from the delicious Skarven fish soup to the incredible Dead Cat IPA. While the food and drinks are top-notch, we’d love to see them include 2-3 slices of bread with the soup to match the generous and hearty portions.
⭐ Rating: 4.8/5 (because of the bread!) Would I return? Absolutely. Skarven Pub is a must-visit for anyone wanting to taste the heart of Tromsø, but don’t be shy about asking for an extra slice of bread—you’ll...
Read moreLovely food and experience. This place was near our hotel.and we just walked in for dinner, the gratinated shrimp is one of the bests shrimp starters I've ever had. The garlic juices were perfect for soaking in some bread. The salmon main was OK tasted like salmon 🙂, all the trimmings that came with it though made it pleasing to the eye and all went well together, was a nice decent portion too. The pollock dish was ok too. Very fishy....according to my partner 🐟. But reasonably tasty and the olives in it gave it a nice flavour.
The service was lovely, you have an area to hang your coat at the entrance....we did wonder what happens if someone took your coat (by accident or not)...this is not weather to go out without a coat...🤔.
I tried the first cocktail on the menu....something skaal, unfortunately I forgot the name. It was a very small amount...but it was nice and strong...really could've done with a but more in the glass.
All in all a lively experience in Tromso and I would...
Read moreAlthough the other two restaurants were fully booked (and the entryway was confusing as it leads to three different restaurants), we managed to get a table in the Skarven Kro area. I can only give this location three stars as when we sat down in the locale, we were not informed that we were supposed to order with an app on a Saturday evening. While this is perfectly ok during these COVID times, we were not informed and sat there for about 15- 20 minutes before we were informed by a waiter passing by. My partner and I each ordered the Whale Steak with pepper sauce, and a glass of wine each via the app. Food was alright but the hottest object on the plate being the baked potato, so a bit disappointing when I’d never tried whale before. 4 stars given because we came back two days later with some time to kill, and ordered the Bacalao and creamed Fish Soup which was much better than the...
