One Star – Unfortunate Hospitality Experience
I regret to say that the only reason I am rating this establishment one star is due to its profoundly disappointing hospitality, which significantly diminished the entire dining experience.
To clarify, I am not suggesting the food was inherently bad. However, the lack of warmth and professionalism from the outset created a hostile ambience that lingered throughout the meal. Unpleasant Booking Experience When my friend visited in person to make a reservation (rather than calling), the staff or manager responded in a curt and unfriendly manner, lacking the courtesy expected from a restaurant of this calibre. Unwelcoming Arrival Despite arriving early, we were made to wait unnecessarily and were seated late—with no explanation or effort to acknowledge the delay. Inattentive Service After being seated, we were left unattended for over 15 minutes. Not even a drink order was taken. I had to abandon etiquette and approach the staff myself to initiate the order, as we had limited time. When we asked if the kitchen could possibly expedite the dishes, the response was rather indifferent: “I can’t promise anything. I don’t know when your food will come.” Such a reply is, quite frankly, unacceptable in any dining setting—let alone one aspiring to a premium standard. Food Quality vs. Value The food itself was merely average. Considering the price point—which is already higher than standard European benchmarks—it fell short in both presentation and taste when compared to other dining venues in Norway. Commendation Where Due I would, however, like to extend my appreciation to the floor service staff. They demonstrated genuine hospitality and attentiveness. In stark contrast, the attitude of the managerial staff was appalling—aloof and dismissive. Ironically, they would do well to learn from their subordinates in how to treat patrons with respect and humility.
In conclusion, I am genuinely perplexed by the numerous five-star reviews this restaurant has received. As someone who frequently dines across various regions and culinary styles, this was one of the most underwhelming experiences. I do not recommend this establishment, especially for those who value service as...
Read moreThe interior is nice but this shouldn't be on the only good thing about a restaurant. Unfortunately this was the case.
The food was obscenely overpriced when factoring overall portion sizes. A tiny glass of wine was nearly $20. The king crab was over $50 and all they gave was 4 tiny pieces of crab legs. An order of scallops was nearly $30 and came with exactly 4 pieces of scallops. For a tapas place, they go real cheap in giving you as little as possible while charging a lot.
Due to some computer malfunction we had to wait a whole hour for our food. People that came in after us got their food before us. I called this out the owner of the place and he offered us free garlic bread and desert.
The garlic butter for the bread was literally just butter and heavy oil, the after smell made me nauseous later in the night.
The deserts were decent, although unfortunately enough, the waitress brought a tray of deserts for us to choose and proceeds to drops the entire tray on the floor minutes later. So clumsy. Also the owner was arguing with his chefs in the cooking area which can be clearly heard by us and other customers.
Oh and the food gave me a stomach ache afterwards.
With all these factors, definitely would not recommend this place at all.
There was a waaaaay better tapas place in Bergen, Norway called Taperia that had much better tasting food, larger portions, and a better prices. The owner there was a really...
Read moreI’ve visited many restaurants across Tromsø and other cities in Norway, at different levels of class, and I would 100% never recommend this place.
The hospitality was terrible, and the managerial staff lacked professionalism. They did not create a welcoming or warm environment. This was especially disappointing because my fiancé and I were having our last dinner before our wedding day. Instead of being a special memory, the experience was tainted — we even felt subtle hints of racism.
When I first entered the restaurant (while my fiancé looked for parking), I immediately felt a hostile and unwelcoming attitude. Being a person of color in Northern Norway, I’m used to often being the only one in certain spaces, but here, I felt particularly uncomfortable. Staff and even some guests at a nearby table kept staring at me in a way that felt more than casual curiosity.
The staff seemed in a rush to take my order despite me clearly saying multiple times that I was waiting for my partner. But once my fiancé finally joined, suddenly there was no waiter in sight to take our order anymore.
The only reason this review even gets one star is because there’s no option for...
