Bonchon Chicken - Valero One Central — Restaurant in Makati

Known to be one of the early Korean Fried Chicken entrants in the Philippines, Bonchon has wisely decided to extend their fried chicken expertise into the Fried Chicken Sandwich market.

Both their Spicy Chicken and Chikin Chop Sandwiches could roll and even beat some of the well known Fried Chicken Sandwiches from established fastfood giants like McDonald's, Jollibee, KFC or BK. They would have a harder time with smaller players like BBX, Fowlbread or SideChick.

I particularly enjoyed their Spicy Chicken which came with a spicy mayo coleslaw. There were hints of kimchi, soy Garlic and was immensely satisfying to eat. Though not as flavorful, the Chikin Chop highlighted the ever familiar Korean Soy Garlic flavor capitalizing on the crunch of the breading. Just don't wait too long before biting into this sandwich because if you let an hour pass, the crunch would turn to an annoyingly hard surface.

Came here on a rainy mid-morning. Barely any customers inside and the staff were chatting.

Food: I ordered a sizzling meal, but they served it in a takeout box. Where's the sizzle?

Atmosphere: The store is tremendously worn-out. Tiles need rerouting, paint on the walls is patchy and damaged. And it's loud. The music, at the start, was incredibly loud. You'd have to raise your voice just to make an order. They eventually turned it to a comfortable level after complaints.

We ordered the Chikin Chop Sandwich at 5:59:54 pm. It was served at 6:39 pm. Only after constant follow ups. As i was ordering, the girl at the counter was chatting with the other server about not receiving her pay yet. I say the staff was too distracted to mind their customers. Another couple was also waiting for their order. Another guy was waiting 30 mins for his order, too. The staff needs retraining on proper customer service. This branch sadly ruins the Bon Chon...
