It gets loud and drunk on Friday nights. Despite that their service was admirable, at noise levels that were probably at 90db (heavy machinery). Service was responsive when you got their attention (probably 5 guys in an area of ~300sqm and 80+ patrons ). Floor manager was very responsive.
Chicken was a bit dry, we got the spicy south roast chicken half serving with 3 sides and the half rack sweet ribs with 2 sides. Sides were mashed potatoes, black beans, Mexican rice, roasted squash and garlic rice. The half chicken was at about 150g of meat and the ribs at half rack serving probably 80-100g of meat.
With canned soft drinks we paid about 500php per head.
Their house made hotsauce was potent, feeling like a bit below birds eye chili at 50-80k Scoville.
The gringo, unlike the many other "bars" along the street, didn't pump in hearing harming music so the noise we experience was patron generated.
We had the unfortunate experience of overcompenating partiers who had a shouting-lauging contest with themselves - who could sound like they're having the most fun at the expense of the rest of...
Read moreI don't mind paying for good food but I felt slighted when I noticed there was a 10% service fee. What the heck is this for? To bring out your plates?
Also the prices don't make any sense. It's actually cheaper to order the items and sides al acart. The combos are more expensive than ordering separately but at first I thought maybe the sides with the combo are a bigger size. I asked the waiter and he said no, regular size.
I ordered the nachos and southern chicken. Nachos had a very citrusy sauce but overall I would say they were decent. The southern chicken was just BBQ sauce with a side of the citrus sauce as extra dipping sauce which was overly acidic. I was expecting a lot more from this place. Glad I didn't order the ribs which would have been showered in just BBQ sauce and over priced.
I won't be eating here again, that's for sure. These owners need to pay a visit to the states and see what REAL BBQ is!
Whole experience was disappointing....
Read moreI was happy we came here to eat for lunch.
We had the grilled half chicken with 3 sides (squash, steamed plantain, garlic mushroom) and the catfish.
We were surprised at how delicious the food was. It wasn't on the small side, but it wasn't on the large portion either. It was just enough.
What made it special was the two endless sauces provided (lemon herb and a hot sauce). Not to mention enough napkins (the way it should be). It felt like eating back in the USA again because of this (not stingy on simple things).
The negatives would be: We had to chase the waiter for our check. We weren't given a jug of water early on and had to ask for one. The lady staff was shy and served our order, murmuring without enunciation the food being served slowly. It was as if she wanted to leave the table fast. Food wasn't served all at once. We had to wait for some time before all the food was served before digging in.
I would recommend it...
