We have been to Whistlestop in Salcedo Village many times. With our small Dacsie Chihuahua mix Noona. My wife and I with Noona. My wife and kids and I with Noona. At times just Noona and me. We were always allowed in the al fresco area. We have eaten in Whistlestop West Gate with Noona as well. May times.

So I was stumped last night (Around 10PM, 20 Sept 2025) when the Whistlestop Valero staff told us that no dogs allowed.

I tried to explain that we have eaten there many times with our dog (they looked new, we have not seen them before)... but they told me it has always been management policy...No dogs allowed.

So we just left and ate elsewhere.

A blessing in disguise actually because we ended up in Vina Trang. A good Vietnamese place at the Lush...

we’ve been a regular here for a while, but it just keeps getting more and more disappointing every time.

we’ve been once served tokwa’t baboy in which the pork had seemed to be already gone bad; as we told them the pork tasted bad and returned it, the staff told us that it was normal and up to par when it was obviously spoiled.

recently, the “crispy dinuguan” wasn’t at all crispy. the pork was rubbery and very difficult to chew. although the sauce were good, the pork itself was just inedible.

for the prices, you expect good food. it doesn’t even have to be impressive, just edible atleast.

terrible customer service too - very difficult to catch the...

Used to have good serving size. But they followed the Jupiter branch’s lead and are now serving 10 small pieces of pork for a sinigang that’s supposed to be good for 4 persons.

I called the waiter to ask if this was normal. Came back saying that according to their chef, the pork is prepackaged in a plastic bag and just cooked so the serving size is really supposed to be this small. It’s good for 1-2 persons at best. Disappointing as the cooking here is really excellent.

Photo shows the total amount of pork in the dish 5 without rind and 5 with. Already ate most of them until I noticed how little there were and decided to count.

Great tasting food. Poor...

It started to rain while we were looking for a place to eat, and this was the nearest restaurant we could get to. The service was pretty bad right from the start, as we weren’t accommodated right away. Our server, who was new, kept forwarding our questions to the other staff because she wasn’t familiar with the menu. Just taking our orders already took a lot of time. The food was decent, but I didn’t find it worth the price. Then the bill also took too long to arrive, even though we were the only ones left in the restaurant. Overall, it wasn’t a good experience, and I’m unlikely to return.

Whistlestop is a long-standing "watering hole" established in 1977, as shown by the exterior sign. It's a casual and welcoming restaurant that's open 24/7, making it a reliable spot for late-night food and drinks. The menu is extensive, offering a mix of Filipino comfort food, all-day breakfast dishes, sandwiches, and a full bar. The atmosphere appears relaxed, suitable for a casual meal or a night out with friends.
