Dos Mestizos serves good Spanish food. We had Paella Negra, Lengua, Salpicao, and Gambas. The Lengua was particularly delicious. The rest was good, but not excellent like those in Alba's or Casa Armas in Manila. CAUTION: This place is EXPENSIVE, be it Boracay or Manila standards. Our group of six had to share some four or five dishes, including the medium-sized paella and EVEN PAID FOR DRINKING WATER AT PHP 180 ($4) for a liter. All in all, we paid over PHP6,000 ($130) for a meal that really didn't leave us full. Servings were quite small, like the gambas had less than 10 shrimps, and salpicao had like 10 to 12 cubes of beef. Not sure how this restaurant pulls it off force charging customers to buy water and not having free service water to diners who pay for supposedly premium food and service. If other restaurants and hotels of similar caliber are able to serve free service water, which is required by law by the way, then Dos Mestizos should do the same. But if you don't mind paying for water and willing to spend more than your usual dine outs, go ahead and dine in this restaurant, if only for the lengua, and maybe cochinillo, which some say is quite good. I still hope this restaurant considers serving free service water, this is the least they could do to diners shelling out some extra cost for premium dishes.

We were absolutely impressed with our dinner here. Every dish was flavorful, and the cooks were all great. None of the seafood was overcooked. 👍 I really appreciate it when the kitchen puts in the attention to detail to ensure the seafood isn't overcooked. To put it out there: our least favorite was the deep fried oyster, while not bad, it just didn't taste much like seafood. Everything else, however, was sublime, and can be wholly recommended. We were especially impressed with the baked oysters, which had a great sauce with real cheese, as well as the the smokey umami bursting seafood paella which was just great. If you're looking for spanish food, or just great seafood in general to share, this is the place. The drinks were also good, one of the better piña coladas I've had, and desserts were a fine, light end to the meal. I do recommend reservations, this it does seem to get fully booked. We went early (first to be seated), and had to be seated outside, cause while the inside was empty, it was fully booked. By the time we left, the place was packed. We did see a few unlucky people turned away while we were eating, don't be one of those people, you'll be missing out. :)

Fantastic true Spanish restaurant. It is a cozy place, perfect for a romantic dinner or a get together with friends. I’m from Spain, and I can only say that food is authentic. Home made chorizo was fantastic, clams in white wine SUPER good, Paella negra tasty AND had socarrat ( first layer of crispy rice traditional from Spain) The restaurant claims that it serves “Spanish heritage” food, and it is true. Some parts of the menu I had only seen in my grand parents village in Spain ( for ex., Sopa de Ajo, give it a try!) and there are truly traditional Spanish plates, such as Cochinillo, rabo de toro or callos. Finally, service was great. Our waiter, Jason, was awesome. This is a true restaurant with proper trained service. The review below that said that black paella wasn’t tasty doesn’t know what paella is. Best arroz negro I have had outside Spain if I’m honest. A must try if you are in Boracay

This is the worst meal I have ever had in Boracay in over 15 trips to the island. We arrived there and it took us 15 minutes to get a server to order food. All the servers were busy serving the trays of paella and plating them for each person, and they only took our order once they finished serving the paella. We got some tapas, the jamon croquettes and the gambas were good, but lacked some filling. The blue cheese croquettes were not good, and the pate was bland.

We got a paella Valenciana, and the waiter began to serve it to us, but tables around kept calling the waiter, and she kept leaving to serve them before us, clearly showing she was prioritizing certain tables, and she refused to serve us when she was plating paella for other tables. After 10 minutes of waiting, we received our paella, and saw the shrimp, which all had their poop sacks still inside and clearly seen. One of the people at my lunch is a restaurateur in Manila, and he also said that those sacks should always be removed. When we mentioned this to the waiter, she said “we only remove them for the gambas, but we leave them in for the paella, just eat it like that.” The waiters were very rude the whole time.

Once we tried the seafood, I tried a clam and a friend tried a mussel, it was the worst seafood I have ever had in Boracay. It was super unfresh and tasted frozen and spoiled, and left a lingering aftertaste in our mouths. It was so bad that it was inedible, and we told this to the waiter and asked to cancel it. She grabbed the plates out and took them away, and for the rest of the lunch they were gossiping loudly with other waiters and kitchen staff, and staring at our group and pointing constantly.

We also had the chicken, which was very dry and bland, and we didn’t eat much as we had lost our appetite after the paella. When we paid the bill, the waiter grabbed the bill from our hands and walked away without saying anything, not even a thank you. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant, and the food was very bad and unfresh. DO...

Night started out well. Was seated despite not having a reservation and moved from a small table to a larger one.

Once sat, we were greeted by an army of ants on the wall, directly beside our table.

Appetizers arrived and were tasty. But, the jar of pate only came with 2 pieces of bread and some lettuce. Not enough unless they expect customers to layer inches of pate on each piece of bread. We ordered extra bread, and were charged for it.

We ordered the beef tongue and the beef tenderloin for our mains. The beef tongue was tender but the sauce was separating and too oily. Mashed potatoes were cold as well. The steak was over cooked, dry and not warm; and the starch (scalloped potatoes) were also cold. The tomato and bean garnish had more heat. Thankfully the gravy was good and saved the steak from being wasted.

Service was slow. Asked for the bill 4 times. Manager came up and asked us if we were leaving and that the bill was taken care of. We had not even received the bill we said and that we had yet to pay. He came back with the bill and we paid before leaving.

3a. At no point did any of the staff ask how our food was or how our experience was going. We could have easily left without paying after the manager advised incorrectly, that the bill was paid. They were busy - but, this is basic hospitality.

Safe to say we won't be returning or recommending to anyone looking for a bite to eat.

The cost of the meal was over 6000 PHP. I would say it was worth around half of that. Maybe just under 4000 PHP and that's being kind.

They have been around for a while and we expected much more than a place resting on their...

We have been eyeing this restaurant for a while now and we were finally able to dine here on our last trip to Boracay. The reservation process was quick and painless. A quick call got it sorted. We got to the restaurant and were seated promptly. The servers at this point were lovely. To start, we ordered a carafe of sangria which the waitress poured into our glasses. We emptied the initial glasses so my husband poured us some more from the carafe. He then noticed there was a fly floating in his newly poured drink. The cups were empty so the fly must have come from the carafe. We called the attention of the waitress and explained there was a fly in the carafe of sangria. She replaced only my husband's glass. She did not offer to replace the carafe itself from where the fly came or my glass. Only after us insisting did she actually replace them. No word of apology or anything. This ruined both of our appetites so despite the rest of the meal being well-prepared, we no longer enjoyed the rest of our evening. This was during a weekday so it was not as busy for dinner. We do understand that mistakes happen and we would have been happy to move on. However, aside from the fly-laced sangria, how the server handled the situation left much to be desired. It felt as though we were hassling her just so she would replace the drinks. We paid and got out of there as quick as we can. It is a shame that a restaurant we so looked forward to visiting has let us down this way. We won't be...
