We booked to pick up a kinder country cake with writing on it saying happy birthday. Writing was poorly done and small, cake tasteless and nothing like kinder country and it cost £50! We've had multiple meals in Krakow, 3 course with drinks and nothing was close to 50. When we heard the price we were expecting greatness but it just tasted like canned coconut milk used in curries. Massively disappointed, cannot recommend at all. (Edit to respond to not well thought and self entitled response which I think sums up why the workers there are referred by as rude by other reviews). We tried to eat it as believe it or not, we tried to not let it spoil my birthday which the occasion was for which my boyfriend was genuinely upset about as he'd spent £50. We took it out in a smaller box so we could fit it in the bin on the way out. The response of based on the kinder cake is laughable as I mentioned there was no kinder taste whatsoever. Don't lable a cake as something it doesn't take like. Funnily enough my boyfriend did try to speak to you about it but was ignored by the man who was shouting and joking about something behind the counter. When he realised he wasn't being listened to he assumed it was intentional (which I expect too as its clear we gave the service the benefit of the doubt if this response is anything to go by) and just asked for the box as he'd noticed I'd started crying as hed saved up so much for the cake. Clearly you can't see when someone's disappointed by a cake or when they only eaten 1 and a half slices.
Thought I'd add the photo too just to highlight the lack of effort in the writing as well- for a single layer...

@cakestercafe 8.5/10
Scrambled tofu and avocado 8.5/10 Apple Cake 8.5/10 Orange juice 6/10
Cakester cafe was very near our hotel and we had lunch here twice. It is vegetarian but with plenty of vegan options labelled. Portions are generous! They are friendly, a few outdoor seats but indoors is bright and pretty too.
The scrambled tofu was good. It was light and fluffy with strong tumeric taste. It needed a lot more salt and pepper which I added myself (kind of a theme in Krakow, English tastes are maybe less healthy. But a bit funny considering there was a giant salt mine!). I never saw salt and pepper already on the table but you can ask for it. The salad dressing was punchy and vinegary in a good way. Very soft white bread toast which I liked as it kept the dish quite light.
The apple cake looked huge but it had a lot of apple puree so it was actually very light in reality. It was also not too sweet at all which seems to be the preference for cakes in Krakow from our experience. Things are not sickly sweet which means you can eat a bigger portion, but I do have a very sweet tooth so I might have wanted more sugar to make it a 10/10.
I don't like bits and the orange juice was freshly squeezed. I didn't ask so it's totally my fault for ordering something I don't like.
My parents had a hummus bagel with their veggie meal and the hummus here is very much blended chickpeas. They did not add tahini or very much olive oil! Mixed feelings on that but we do have some crazy good hummus in NW London.
All in all a really lovely convenient spot for lunch/tea and cake!...

Original: Octoner 2019 We went to Cakester twice in our two and a half days of being in Krakow. The first time, I ordered an Ice coffee for myself with coconut milk and my companion ordered the gluten free perogis with blueberry filling; we added a side of caramel sauce to is, which was rather delicious. I didn't particularly care for the blueberry perogis, but my companion did. I did really enjoy the coconut milk ice coffee, even if there was more coconut milk in it than espresso haha The reason why I'm giving it 5 stars is because I truly and really loved the Bananoffee cake/pie. That was honestly one of the best desserts I've ever had. Every layer was delucious, mixing well and creating a symphony of tastes and texture on my tastebuds. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to return next time I visit Krakow.
Updated April 2022. I know I'm late to give an update, but we returned to Cakester in August 2020 and were very disappointed. The two cakes we tried were so very dry and lacked flavor; even the coconut filling wasn't good and I felt like I was chewing unflavored coconut oil. The coconut milk also tasted sour in the coffee this time. Very disappointed to have to change my rating after such an incredible experience...
