What an amazing experience! I originally intended to dine at Ratuszova, but their kitchen was already closed. I asked the hostess where she would recommend I dine, and she pointed me here—and I’m so glad she did!
First of all, the service from my waiter, Sebastian, was absolutely excellent. He took it upon himself to educate me about the regional cuisine and suggest several different options to my taste. His recommendations were spot on, and I ended up having a meal that has been a highlight of my trip.
The food showed an attention to detail and an excellence in cooking skill beyond expectations.
The texture of my Pyra z gzikiem was superb—the potato was perfectly cooked, and the cheese almost had a whipped texture and was topped with a crunchy buckwheat popcorn that offered an appealing contrasting crunch to the almost ethereal cheese.
The filet z kurczaka was perfectly cooked—juicy and flavorful, with prominent herb flavors throughout.
The finale was the sernik brûlée—a Polish-style cheesecake that (sorry) beats the socks off of anything from Junior’s—which was deliciously creamy with a balanced sweetness and the crunch of the thin layer of caramelized sugar.
I chose two drinks: I started with a specialty iced Matcha latte with strawberry purée, which was juicy and refreshing. I followed that up with a house-made iced tea with passionfruit purée and lemon juice, which quite possibly ranks among the best iced teas I’ve ever tasted.
Amazing find and I’m glad the historic Ratuszova was closed and I got to experience this amazing meal. I might even stop back by tomorrow for the duck pierogi—I have no doubt it will exceed every other dumpling experience I’ve had this trip. When you eat where workers from other restaurants eat, you know you’re in for a treat. Kudos to...
Read moreA lovely location with friendly staff.
Issues arise with communication as well as some menu items. It’s clear there’s some falsehoods with some reviews, none of the staff speak English, which is fine. Just sad to see businesses put up reviews that aren’t true to inflate popularity.
The owner clearly refuses to renovate the kitchen or expand services. Water that was supposed to be refrigerated and flat tastes like it was sparkling and left out to lose its carbonation.
My party ordered their “Friend Boxes” and waited about 7 minutes before being told that they were unavailable for the day. Not the servers fault, probably someone in the kitchen or something. But after we ordered replacements(!) it took another 9 minutes to be informed that some of them were ALSO unavailable.
I hope whoever owns this restaurant invests in newer equipment and stops cutting costs by letting water sit at room temp to go flat, and improves the kitchen to increase efficiency. And perhaps(as in I highly recommend) attempt to introduce a means to relay to customers what is and isn’t available before wasting their time. Also, some of our cups were a little bit dirty(they were rinsed, they were not washed…)
Overall, a lovely restaurant. The rating is low to hopefully bring attention to the issues. The ambience is lovely and definitely a nice place to dine assuming they solve...
Read moreVisited this place recently to meet my relatives. We were lured in by promise of great food and short waiting times. Unfortunately, we had to wait ages for food - it was Friday, so there was pretty crowded but we've arrived fairly early when there was only few folks waiting. The waiter said that the restaurant has a new chef, but even things like a pint or a coffee was taking ages to arrive...
Once the food arrived, we've had mixed feelings- the fish was okay, some sandwiches were good, but the chlodnik soup wasn't great, and chinese stir-fry had nothing to do with classic stir-fry and had a weird taste.
Recently we have visited Gdansk and we had much better experiences in all restaurants that we've visited, some of them were handling 2-3x of guests we've seen in "Just Friends". Perhaps this set our expectations too high, but we think waiting times greater than 60 minutes are unacceptable anywhere, hence...
