Since this restaurant group is opening a Guanabana in Alvor soon, we decided to try the relatively new location in nearby Lagos. The decor is very festive with several murals on the wall, numerous hanging baskets of plastic flowers, and shelves filled with decorative tequila bottles. There is comfortable seating inside and on the busy cobblestone pedestrian street outside. The service was fast and friendly. Most of the food was good with some hits and some misses on authentic Mexican flavors but overall flavorful. The Pollo Al Pastor Tacos were served very wet, soaking the tortillas with sauce and sour cream, and the chicken was cold. The flavors were good but they could use some help to improve the dish. The server tried to explain away the errors by saying it wasn't a good recipe for the winter as the colder temperatures are what caused the chicken to be cold??? I had the Burrito California which was very good, well prepared and presented, and the Guacamole and Totopos (Tortilla chips) were okay, The Avocados were fresh but the guacamole could have used more seasoning, and the chips were the typical bagged "Doritos" style served in most "Mexican" restaurants in Portugal. The staff and manager were very apologetic about the error with the tacos and promptly removed them from our bill. I also had the Tommy's Margarita which was flavorful but felt a little light on the...
Read moreI was so disappointed with the food and the service. The California Burritos were a soggy mess, and the tacos were good, but nothing outstanding.
I appreciate the owner reaching out. Here are more details: There were six of us eating, two of whom had the California Burrito. Other orders were fish tacos (good), chicken tacos Al Carbon (fine), and a quesadilla. Don't remember the other order. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, which seemed pretty slow for typical Mexican food.
When the food finally arrived, cutting into the burritos, there was just some meat, mostly chicken and soggy rice. We showed the waiter, who said that the guacamole was missing. It seemed like more was missing than just the guacamole, and did not look appetizing. Had the waiter taken the burrito back to the kitchen to have it made correctly, this review would not have been written. Instead, we got two small guacs as a consolation prize. The chicken quesadilla was also soggy, and the cheese was not fully melted. We all just shook our heads and wondered if the help wanted ad prominently displayed in the dining room meant there was a new crew in the kitchen that had yet to be trained.
We all hope you will get things working better, and if our meal was somehow an exception, it was a...
Read moreGood Music and atmosphere. Drinks are also very nice but if you are looking for traditional food, this place might not be the best, some dishes like Nachos can pass the test but Tacos are not it at all, they are supposed to be spicy and salty not sweet, which most of them were. For instance the “Pastor taco” was just coloured chicken and didnt taste nothing like Pastor “Meat” and most of the tacos lacks the traditional essence, this might be considered a tourist Trap for Latino people but I guess it will pass well enough for europeans or people that are not very familiar with Mexican food, in that case, they will basically eat anything and think its traditional, but the only traditional are the tortillas and the drinks, which are obviously Imported so no wonder, to finish, there is not even one mexican person working at the restaurant or a single one that can make conversation in Spanish or at least being a little representator of mexico. As a latino I’m offended. I emphasise its not the fault of the personal, they were very polite and with excelent manners and service but the Mexican essence was lacking in their food. Dont take it personal, its just...
