We stumbled across Alpendre, and are we ever glad we did! It is clearly loved by locals judging by the amount that were there during our visit. It is our first day in Lisbon, so we felt a little unsure what to order, but with the help of our amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable server, Pedro. We picked the garlic shrimp, which was fresh and delicious, and Pedro also supplied fresh bread to soak up all the garlic juices. We also had the ham and melon. The ham was mouth-watering, and the melon was really sweet and incredibly juicy. Our main was the Meat plate for two. It was a perfect amount of everything, perfectly cooked! The beer was chilled to perfection and served in a funky just of of the freezer mug. We are only here for 4 days but already plan to visit at least once more before we head on to our next city.

It is quite an experience to visit Alpendre. The choice of foods is solid, going way beyond fish and seafood like in many other restaurants in the area. There are some locals eating in this place, which together with the menu and decor makes it more of an event than just a meal. We were served by an extremely energetic waiter, who was helpful in picking the right options from the card, as well as recommended good, reasonably priced wine to our choices. Food was served in about 10 minutes, which considering the place was full was quick. Food itself was good, we had aroz de mariscos (full of seafood, incl. part of crab) and a steak. The only downside is we felt a little bit rushed, even as the place started to empty after the lunch window.

After searching for around an hour for good food, we got lucky and managed to stumble across this authentic local Portuguese restaurant. From the moment we entered their premises we were greeted with big smiles from their staff and noticed that the customers sitting down were having a good time. That mixed with the sweet aroma of food in the air and drinks flowing we decided to take a seat, which was the best decision we made during our trip in Lisboa. I 100% recommend ordering the garlic lemon shrimp and seafood in rice! The food was so good I had to thank the chefs in the kitchen!

Alpendre is a little restaurant in Alfama. The Google review rating of 4,6 stars gives the impression of a well above average eating place. Interior is simple in a vaulted room. Tables are arranged close to each other, seated back to back. We had melon&ham and fried eggs&bacon as starters. Melon was not ripe, ham had no flavor. Fried eggs&bacon came with chips. Bacon was basically sloppy gammon, fried eggs not spiced, chips were not salted. For mains we ordered house special cod, mixed grill platter and turkey. Sides came all with chips and salad. Cod came battered and deep fried. Tasted nasty and dry. Meat on the mixed grill platter was to a small part good, especially the beef, the other meats were tough and chewy. Turkey tasted tough and dry. Chips not salted, salad very basic without any special flavour to it. We refused to try desserts. Best memorable flavour was the red wine. Staff is rushed and impatient. Prices are far too expensive for the quality you get in return. But due to the fact that the area is very touristic, there will always be a steady flow of potential customers coming for dinner. Place was crammed with people, there was even a queue waiting outside. That evening almost no portuguese were dining there, which might also be a hint of inferior quality. As noted at the beginning, we do not understand the very good rating of this place. It was the worst dining experience we had so far in Lisbon. There are far more superior diners for less money in nearby Santa Luzia, Bairro Alto or Intendente. Even when taking a taxi to get there, it is...

Wonderful dinner! I think this was probably the best meal we had in Lisbon, or one of them! To start off we had the basic starter with bread, butter, and cheese which was good. We had the garlic shrimp with a side of rice which was delicious. We also ordered the mixed grilled meat for two, which was beef, pork, and sausage, which came with potato fries and salad. All of the food was delicious! Their piri piri is also homemade, which we asked for. If they sold it, I would’ve bought some to take home! VERY hot, so be careful when/if you ask for it.

Ordered rice pudding for dessert, which brought back memories of my aunt’s when she used to make it. It’s a very authentic Portuguese dessert, as well as the rest of their menu.

The only thing I would say is that the Sangria could be a bit stronger. I’m not sure if they use pink wine or put too much soda, but I like my Sangria a little stronger. Still giving 5 stars, because that’s just my preference. If you like something stronger, I would suggest their house wine, which many people around us were ordering.

Cool thing: their beer is served in ice cold metal mugs, which keeps your beer super cold for a long time while looking awesome!

All in all, I would 100% recommend those restaurant to anyone looking for traditional Portuguese food. Amazing food for a great price! Everything mention above came to €60 for a LOT of food as well as a liter of...

Had a very high expectation of this place and was excited to dine here. Service was horrible. Didn't bring out our drinks until 10-15 minutes later and when they did, they mixed up both drinks and didn't even offer to correct their mistake. Simply said, "this is very good too" and gave us the impression that he didn’t want to take it back. We didn't want to ruin our one of the few dinners during our Lisbon trip so we went with it and later found out that they even charged twice for the wrong drink they brought. Also they seem to clearly show some difference in how they treat different tables depending on their race. Reading other reviews, I guess I am not the only one who noticed this and just wish I knew before coming here. We were being polite, not demanding, not the toughest customers to please yet servers were cold, inattentive, and came off very rude. Food was not even good compared to other places here and were generally fishy and I ended up having to throw up in the middle of the night thanks to the "this is also good" drink they offered. When we came to Portugal 4 years ago, we got such a good impression that we wanted to return at one point. After 4 years we come back here and this place gave us a huge...
