Casa portuguesa de pastel de bacalhau: This place is great for a snack on the way, i came here because my friends told me to try the pastel de bacalhau which is one of portugal’s famous dishes. This place is straight to the point, no place to sit, you come in order as many as you want and eat it on the go. Pasteil de bacalhau reminded me a lot of something we do back at home, it’s dried fish that is mixed with multiple ingredients and then fried. I actually enjoyed it, perfectly golden brown, you can actually feel the taste of the fish when it’s dried, that melted gooey cheese gives it a nice touch, it was very nice, it’s a good snack to take on the go, i would recommend you to get the one with cheese. Something i would like to add, the guy working at the cash counter was funny, however i felt like it was a bit overpriced most probably because it is in the city center.

Casa Portuguesa is situated along Rua Augusta and open from 10am to 10pm daily. You purchase at a front near the entrance and then take your ticket over to the service counter, where you will be given very large pastel de bacalhau (€5 each) or a combo called the Portugal Experience served with a glass of Port (€12.50). This is about as touristy a way to try pastel de bacalhau (cod balls) as it comes but sort of fun as well. The pastel have a fair amount of cod mixed with potato and are fried just fine. What is unique about those served here other than being nearly twice the regular size is that they have a centre filling of fairly strong Serra de Estrela cheese which gives added flavour. It is not bad but does produce a taste quite different to the traditional pastel de bacalhau. They have tables outside that you can use if you want to sit down while trying your cod ball and drinks at Casa Portuguesa. Otherwise, you can just have it while walking around Rua Augusta and adjacent streets.

From outside the restaurant I saw the giant croquet with golden cheese flowing out. I was curious to see what this was so I walked in and they instructed me to pay before I received the croquet, weird. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful so I thought I was in for a treat however things quickly changed when I walked upstairs to enjoy my treat. The croquet was denser than I thought and instead of flaky it was soft and mushy in the interior. What disappointed me the most was the lack of golden flowing cheese. It should be false advertising to have a giant mural of nacho cheese inside the nugget when the reality is far from the picture. The cheese was barely in the croquet and it seemed like it was uncooked and mushy in the interior. It wasn’t bad it was just disappointing. This establishment is supposed to represent the best of the Portugal experience and it really let me down. For €5 I won’t be coming back here to eat these croquettes unless it’s to use the bathroom upstairs.

La Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau It is a restaurant located in the center of Lisbon, in the Rua Augusta, where you can find just Pastel De Bacalhau. The Pastel Dr Bacalhau it's a very typical food here in Lisbon. It is a "ball" made of salted cod, potato, garlic and parsley that is coated with flour and finally fried. They have 2 flavours; the regular one and another one stuffed with cheese in the center. Both are awesome! But I particularly find them very expensive though. Each "ball" costs 5€. And then they have a pack with 4 "balls" for 18€. The 0,50cl beer costs 4,50€. And then you can choose having wine or soft drinks. The overall it's worth it, but you may find them cheaper anywhere else!
