First of all, I have to say that the food is very good. But what upsets me is the attitude of the service staff. I’m not sure if I'm not following the rules that some staffs only served some certain areas in the restaurant. I know the restaurant is very famous, so I walked over 20 minutes just for the reputation. The first staff gave me the menu and then he asked me that he can give me some Portuguese cuisine advice if I need, which was really helpful and good. Then he served some new customers and walked away. When I wanted to order, he was serving other people and then I asked for a second staff who could serve customers outside, I think. He was really nice and did order for me. After the meal, I asked for the first person that I need the bill, he said okay and did other things. When I waited like five minutes and he didn't come, I thought I needed to go to the bar and pay for it. Because someone was waiting outside and I was thinking I can leave quickly and let them in. And while I was standing at the bar, the first guy was talking to the other colleague in Portuguese, and then another guy came in, and none of the three asked me, which made me a little embarrassed But I can make sure they didn’t like serving or making drinks for someone else, they just talked to each other and ignored me. At that time, I think I couldn't interrupt their conversation which is disrespectful, and then the second staff came in, and I asked him for help, and he said just two minutes, and I said no problem, and then the first guy came over, and the second guy told him to check out for me, and I saw that he just clicked on my table number, and the bill came out. So I don't know why I've been waiting there for so long and no one is asking me if I need any help, which I think is a bit disrespectful to me. And I’d say this is the most awful thing about today. The service above I gave two stars just for the second staff, of course not for the first guy. If I broke the rules, I really apologized for that, but later your ignorance made me feel bad and not...
Read moreI recently visited Maria Carita restaurant in Lisbon and I have to say that overall, I had a great experience. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly and accommodating. However, I do have one minor complaint that prevents me from giving the restaurant a full 5-star rating: the service charge was not included in the prices.
While I understand that this is a common practice in many restaurants in Portugal, I personally prefer when the service charge is included in the prices of the dishes. It makes the process of paying the bill simpler and more transparent, as there are no surprises when it comes time to pay. Additionally, as a tourist, I appreciate knowing exactly how much I am paying for a meal without having to do mental calculations to add the service charge.
Despite this minor complaint, I still highly recommend Maria Carita. The food was delicious and well worth the price. The menu had a good selection of dishes to choose from, and the portions were generous. I particularly enjoyed the seafood dishes, which were fresh and flavorful. The restaurant itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with warm lighting and comfortable seating.
The staff at Maria Carita were also very friendly and attentive. They were happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had about the menu. Our dishes arrived promptly and were presented beautifully.
In terms of pricing, I would say that Maria Carita is moderately priced. The main dishes are around 18 euros, which is in line with other restaurants in the area. While it would have been nice if the service charge was included in the prices, the quality of the food and service more than made up for it.
Overall, I highly recommend Maria Carita restaurant in Lisbon. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Whether you're a tourist or a local, this restaurant is definitely...
Read moreTotally overhyped! We ordered two main course including their speciality risotto and a tuna steak, 2 entrees and a cocktail. The duck meat was way too hard than usual. The rest of the food tasted decently but nothing extraordinary. The low rating from my end is largely factoring in their service. The staff clearly had prejudice on customers of a certain race despite such international crowd that comes in and gets out everyday! We were attended late deliberately and the staff was uncourteous clearing extra cutlery and wine glasses without asking us while eating and the same with plates. My mom prefers eating with her and doesn’t use cutlery due to minor hand tremors and she was watched liked a showpiece in a museum only by the staff for some reason. A young white (I’m forced to mention this for a reason) couple who got in just before we left were welcomed all smiles, got seated quickly, asked if they’d need still or sparkling water and were treated with utmost courtesy. On the other hand, we were seated for 15 minutes without anyone attending us, none asked us what we’d like to drink and while taking our order, the fella asked us how would we like our steak with a condescending look and tone thinking that we wouldn’t know. Overall, a bad expensive experience for us that could have easily turned good if not great just with some respect. Perhaps, the staff need to consume respect and courtesy along with their famous steak and sea food to give it as well.
There are way better mannered people running small and really nice Portuguese restaurants in Rua dos correeiros snd adjacent lanes serving the same cuisine for a much lesser price. My verdict would be to spend your bucks there over this snobby...
