We stayed at the Rossio Gastrobar in March 2023. The bar is part of the 5-star Altis Avenida Hotel and offers pleasureful views from the rooftop terrace. The Rossio Gastrobar is a mixture of bar and restaurant but offers a limited food choice while the wine list is richer. The ambiance is very stylish. However, while the prices are adequate for the hotel's 5-star classification, the behavior of the staff needs significant improvement. When I booked the table, I had to leave my first name and my familiy name. However, when I came to the hotel everyone called me by my first name which in Europe is disrespectful. Further, when I booked the table, I asked if having some drinks without dining was possible, which was confirmed. However, when we ordered our drinks, the waiter insisted on convincing us to have also food. Nevertheless, I explained to him that we already had dinner and only wanted to have some drinks, he came by at least ten times during our one hours stay, investigating if we had changed our mind related to having some food or wanted some additional drinks. I appreciate attentive service but being asked every 5 minutes (!) to order something else is disturbing. Further, the waiter repeatedly wanted to remove our glasses, even though they weren't empty. When I received the bill, the waiter added a tip without asking me first or advising me about it. In Portugal, the service fee is already included in the price, and it is up to the guest to give a bonus if the service is satisfactory. I am happy to give a bonus, but receiving a bill with a pre-prepared tip and not even getting advised is odd. To sum up, the Rossio Gastrobar is a stylish location, but the behavior of the staff should be in line with the hotel's classification and put the guests first rather than the goal of selling as much as possible. Like any of my reviews, of course, this review is related to the type of restaurant, the restaurant's gastronomic objective, the overall gastronomic quality of the respective city, and the general context and needs to get compared to similar types of...
Read moreThis is a disaster!!! We stay in Lisbon in one of the Altis 4* hotels with perfect service and very nice on-site dining and we have been absolutely sure that a gastrobar at 5* Altis hotel has to be at least good. It turns to be completely wrong! What we ordered: water glass of sparkling wine glass of red wine (pointed to our waiter in the vine list) hamburger fried potatoes with ketchup (this is important) steak (asked the waiter how it is better to be grilled - mrdium or medium-well and got an answer "medium" - this is also important) What we got: water glass of sparkling wine glass of WHITE wine (so I had to remined the waiter to bring me the red wine and one more time to point the exact wine name in the wine list) hamburger fried potatoes WITHOUT ketchup (ketchup was brought to our table as soon as our son finished the potatoes) grilled SQUID instead of steak Communication I explained the waiter I ordered a steak, not the squid, he brought the squid back and disappesred for about 10 (!) minutes. As soon as he was back he asked, whether I could wait another 6 minutes for the steak. As our dinner was already ruined, I told the waiter "No, I will not wait, please CANCEL the order". In another 5-10 minutes we finished our drinks and were looking for the waiter to ask for the bill. Finally he arrived WITH THE STEAK in his hands.
To be honest, the wine was very good, but I simply cannot understand how all these things can happen at all. This may be possible somewhere, I guess, but not in: a) 5* hotel in the capital city b) such a 'top' dining venue as Rossio Gastrobar presents itself
I would strongly recommend to avoid the Rossio Gastrobar in any case, even if there is no alternative to have a meal anywhere else around....
Read moreWhat a beautiful evening! I highly recommend this restaurant! 10 of us are on vacation in Lisbon for the first time and one of our men randomly chose a resturant for dinner in the area of our hotel and we are all so glad he did! The atmosphere of Rossio Gastrobar has a beautifully hip modern vibe and the views from The resturant patio and interior are gorgeous! We arrived and were seated outside, it was pretty but chilly. With 10 people on a Saturday night I asked if possible for us to be relocated inside. Christine the hostess was very nice and went to see what she could do. Joas the manager came and spoke to us and asked if we agreed to having drinks first outside they could have a table ready for us. This was a big win as we got to experience the Ambience of both the inside and outside of the restaurant. Everyone was so accommodating and Sara the outside server took our 10 drink orders without writing anything down! Most impressive! Upon entering the interior of the restaurant for dinner, Tiago took over as our server and he was also charming. Service was spot on… perfect!! The food itself was delicious, no complaints from any of us.. it was a perfect 10! Joas came back to our outside table while we were still having drinks and introduced us to a Cowboy Steak Special for two they were having. One of my fellow diners and myself shared it and once the others saw the wonderful presentation of the meal to our table and then once we tasted the dinner we became the envy of the table! Though everyone enjoyed their selections, the steak was the hit of the evening! You will be happy with whatever you choose but know… for an upscale dining experience you can’t go wrong with Rossio...
