Ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen
Service was good, available in Portuguese and English. After ordering, my bowl arrived pretty quickly which was a nice surprise.
The noodles were slippery and not too chewy, which I liked, though they didn't have any strong flavor to them.
To me, the broth smelled and tasted slightly of fish, with a slight lemon flavor. Wasn't too salty or oily, a pretty light soup.
The chashu (pork) didn't evoque any strong flavor, but I liked it. You can discern a buttery flavor to it, which is a nice addition.
I believe that the egg was marinated in soy for too long: a very salty and overwhelming soy taste. Be sure to drink some of the broth at the same time to counterbalance it.
The restaurant itself has a chill ambience, with yellow lights and soothing music. It was a good experience going in by myself.
Compared to the ramen bowls I've had in Paris, I think that the price for the bowl was perfectly fair, more or less on par with what I'd expect for a ramen of this quality.

Read moreA poor, distasteful experience from start to finish. All I can say is how disappointing my dining experience was. The staff did not sufficiently look after us. When asking to keep the menu, I was not allowed. The service was slow. Nobody checked in on our meal. Our waitress was friendly but overall the service was poor. Onto drinks. Luke-warm tap water cost €2.50. The sake was not heated in a traditional Japanese fashion - it was placed in a jug of water. Now the food. The actual fish of the sushi was tasteless. There were toppings which tasted even worse. Even the soya sauce tasted off. For the tofu teriyaki, there were approximately 10 tiny pieces of tofu with a couple of pieces of broccoli and hardly any rice. In my sushi set, 2 pieces of sashimi were advertised. Each piece was minuscule, minute, tiny. It was quite literally about a quarter of a typical piece of...
Read moreI stumbled across Haibu walking around Ponta Delgada on Christmas night. As is to be expected, there weren't many options available due to Christmas closures.
I was just walking around exploring side streets and saw Haibu was open and popped in and I had a wonderful Christmas meal. I was the first person there and then more people came as the time progressed.
My meal consisted of: Edamame Sashimi Moriawase (Chef's Choice Sashimi) King Uramaki (Caramelized Salmon, salmon, pineapple and vale forno cheese) Takoyaki (Octopus in a fluffy dough, crispy fried and topped with Japanese Mayo, Takoyaki sauce, nori and Bonito flakes).
The service was impeccable. The ambience was lovely. The food was immaculate.
I cannot recommend this enough....
