My husband and I visited on July 09, 2024.
We spent quite a while standing in line with what felt like limited time to read the flavor menu, as it sits on the counter by the register and isn't available on the wall with the menu prices. That said, it helped having the translations also written on the menu so that we didn't have to stand at the register translating on our phones.
He ordered the amendoim (peanut) gelato on a cone and I ordered avelã (hazelnut) and chocolate on a cone. All were great.
The sizes are smaller than the US, but I am one of those people who believes that's a good thing; so to me, the portions were great, especially given how quickly the gelato melted.
Inside was cute enough, but we opted to walk to the park and enjoy our treat there. If you do this, be sure to grab napkins. We didn't, and as the gelato melted, I became a gross sticky mess. On our walk back to the car, we stopped back inside to wash up which helped.
The prices were a little steep compared to the experience, but it was a treat for the evening and made for a nice dessert date on...
Read moreLa Gelateria in Azores is truly a cut above the rest. Their gelato is by far the best I have had in Europe and quite possibly the world. I've tried many Gelateria in Italy, and La Gelateria surpassed my expectations in every way.
The variety of flavors was impressive, from classic chocolate and more unique flavors like pineapple, passionfruit. As a plant-based eater, I was thrilled to see that they had a variety of vegan options, including melon made from local watermelon and cantaloupe from neighbouring islands. They truly showcase the local produce and ingredients.
But what really stood out was the quality of the sorbet. It was unbelievably creamy and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The attention to detail is evident in every scoop. I was blown away by the flavor profile of each and every gelato I tried.
Overall, La Gelateria is a must-visit destination in Azores for anyone who appreciates great gelato. The vegan options are exceptional, and the quality of the gelato is second to none. I highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreThis place has some of the best ice cream I've ever had! The place is owned and operated by an Italian woman who makes everything by hand and from natural ingredients. You can definitely taste the difference. I'm not joking when I say that the chocolate bacio ice cream was as good as I've ever had. It's not the cheapest but it's totally worth it. This is my second time here and I plan to come again while visiting Sao Miguel over the next two weeks. the first time I came I liked it so much I took home a kilo to share with my wife and in-laws. We tried the orange ginger which was also awesome, the avocado which I wasn't crazy about because it's basically taste like avocado was nonetheless very interesting. We tried the hazelnut which was also awesome. And lastly we tried the chocolate bacio which was the one that is as good as I've ever had. I would highly recommend this place. It's a little off the beaten path but still only a few minutes walk from the big...
