Café Royal — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

The food at Cafe Royal is authentic and reasonably priced, which is a plus. We enjoyed our lunch of bifanas, fries and a beer. However, our experience was marred by poor service from one of the waiters. Unfortunately, he was rude and seemed to dislike Americans. He was inattentive, left us hanging for long periods, and made us feel unwelcome. It was disappointing because the food was solid, but the lack of good service really affected the overall experience. Also, when they rang up the tab, it was more than listed on the sign outside but I let it go.

Additionally, the restaurant does nothing to address the beggars who come right up to your table while you're eating. I watched as one approached a young female diner and when she refused to give him money, he picked up her soda off the table and drank it. It really made the atmosphere uncomfortable. It’s disappointing that the management doesn’t seem to take any action to...

Good for the price but very average for what we got. We weren't given any menu so had to go by the pictures on the wall menu, trying to figure what they offered.

Ended up getting a cheese croissant sandwich and a ham and cheese croissant sandwich (I know, very plain on its own). The croissants are more like bread with a shell on the outside that looks like a croissant. The cheese sandwich had two slices of cheese with dry bread, and the ham and cheese sandwich had one slice of cheese with one slide of bread with a dry sliced croissant. Had to wash it down with the coffee.

The bakery section had a good selection and the milk "cake" we got was good. Next time we'll try to order something better...

We were here this evening with a group of 4 people. Three of us ate the steak and one a sandwich, additionally one cheese and 2 plates of garlic bread. We paid around 60€ together. The main dishes arrived before the starters (garlic bread) and the cheese wasn‘t brought at all. The steaks weren‘t even a centimeter high and the driest and chewiest we have ever eaten. The sandwich was dry as well and had nothing but bread and a slice of meat on it. The waiter saw our leftover food, which was more than half of the meal, and it seemed like he understood our complaints. After he talked with his boss, we were still charged for the...
