Mascote — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

After all the positive reviews, we had high expectations & looked forward to a nice dinner just before 9pm. Upon ordering it was clear the staff couldn't cope & turned out nor could the kitchen. Even when the restaurant was half full it took almost an hour for our main dishes to arrive & others were also clearly annoyed. Maybe the food would make up for it (We ordered the traditional steak) but unfortunately not. It was tough and lack of flavour attempted to be covered by lots of garlic... almost as if they had only defrosted the meat when we ordered... certainly far better steaks available at other restaurants in Ponta Delgada for not much more $$. I also ordered a glass of wine with my main but it never came & then they tried to charge for it. Really would not recommend this place unless you are on a tight budget or...

The waitress purposefully ignored us. When we called her, she brought us a menu. We chose and wanted to order. I had to call her again. She came up say ok and instead of taking our order she went to ask the tables that were already seated if everything was okay. There were 2 tables that sat down after us. She took their orders and even brought them drinks. We called her, but she just looked at us and nodded her head. We just left, if this service is at the order stage, I'm afraid to imagine what will happen next. Terrible service, I do...

I love eating where you see local people gathering. This is that place! Local neighbours enjoying their coffee, old men having lunch, and server greeting regulars and tourists with friendly service. This restaurant offers daily specials, and mine was delicious, and portion was very generous....
