We hat a layover in Ponta Delgada airport for about 5 hours and since we visited the island previously we decided to go downtown to eat and have a walk before our departure. We went to this place as most of the restaurants are closed after 14h30 , but we were so disappointed. We were 6 people and we ordered different dishes: the chicken was acceptable, the hamburger was actually the only dish that was ok; and we never eat hamburgers when in Europe, but my steak tenderloin was so disappointing, the fries were ok but the added some unnecessary flavour salt that was not necessary as the potatoes are delicious on the island. My friend ordered a local dish called Bifana and the meat was testing odd like it was cooked a long time ago and reheated… another friend asked for a Prego sandwich that is supposed to be made with steak but instead they used pork that also tested odd and she could not eat it! When we told them about it the server went to the kitchen and we heard them arguing about this situation but no option was offered! The bartender tried to explain their situation by telling us they were closed the day before and they were still recuperating from the day off… so maybe never go there on a Monday but we are definitely not going to return to...
Read moreOk, I’m here, actually eating as I write this review. The food is great! But, the service is quite poor and it isn’t busy on a Monday night. First, they didn’t bring the appetizers and when we reminded them, the choice was “do you want it now or cancel?” Uh, how about “Sorry, and we’ll comp you?” Second, the Pulled Pork Beany includes Mac & Cheese bites. They weren’t on the plate when it arrived. When enquired, a different server checked for us, returned and apologized as they had run out and our sever failed to inform us. The only offer - extra fries. Third, after taking our order and bringing the initial drinks and food, we had to wait until I called a server for another beer. Kind of felt like we were being ignored or overlooked. So, good food - octopus was excellent! - but the service leaves much to be desired. To add to the terrible experience, we had asked for separate bills for each couple. Not possible! First place in São Miguel that couldn’t do this. Then, when the bill came and we had our cash ready, we were told that we would have to pay at the counter even though we told them that we were paying by cash. Overall, I would suggest...
Read moreGenuinely baffled by the high review ratings for this place. It was busy when we arrived so we were sat upstairs, fine so far. We ordered the Chef's Board sharer for 2-3, which had ribs, wings, a pulled meat of some kind, sliced meat and a chorizo sausage. All arrived in good time but was not exactly hot when served. Starting with the good, the sausage was fairly tasty, and hot. End of good. It was also full of fat and gristle, which is one thing with a cured chorizo, but another with a cooked sausage. The rest of the meat was essentially an homogeneous collection of similar tasting things covered in a sickly sweet yet somehow simultaneously tasteless BBQ sauce, all of which was generally unpleasant. The fries were ok, though I realised halfway through that the seasoning reminded me perfectly of the pack of crisps we'd bought from Spar earlier in the day. We washed it all down with the weakest sangria known to man. Maybe all the other dishes are much better, but I wouldn't be overly confident. In case you weren't sure, not...
