If you're looking for a hidden gem tucked away in the upper Kalemegdan area, Mali Kalemegdan is the place to be. Situated under the soothing shade of trees, this restaurant offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed dining experience.
During our visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon around 3 PM, the restaurant was bustling with activity, with kids from other families joyfully running around, adding to the lively ambiance. Despite the crowd, we managed to find a spot to sit and enjoy our meal.
Speaking of meals, the food at Mali Kalemegdan is nothing short of spectacular. I opted for the boneless chicken leg with kajmak and fries as a side dish, and I must say, every bite was a burst of flavor. The scent of the grill wafting through the air as we passed by initially had our mouths watering, and the actual taste did not disappoint.
My wife went for the smoked pork neck meat, which she found slightly saltier than expected, but still enjoyable. We also shared a delightful šopska salad, which complemented our main dishes perfectly.
Now, let's talk about the prices. While the quality of the food justifies the cost to some extent, I must admit that the prices are on the higher side. Our total bill, including the main dishes, salad, and drinks, came to around 4500 dinars, which was a bit steep for a lunch outing. However, considering the prime location within Kalemegdan park, it's understandable that prices reflect the setting.
One thing to note is the wait time, which my wife found a tad lengthy despite the waiter's forewarning about the busy kitchen. However, once the food arrived, any impatience was quickly forgotten as we savored each delicious bite.
In summary, Mali Kalemegdan offers a fantastic dining experience with mouthwatering food, a charming ambiance, and a prime location. While prices may be a bit high and wait times slightly long, the overall experience makes it worth a visit for anyone looking to indulge in quality cuisine amidst a...
Read moreAfter a long day of walking around Belgrade, my group decided to stop for dinner. I didn't think it would get much more than an hour for us to move on, but fate had different plans. I was sitting with my two friends, we ordered, and talked. Then talked. And talked. Until we talked for around half an hour, and our food still wasn't delivered. My two friends got it in a short while, but me, no. I was the unlucky one this time. The server came by our table every now and then and said things such as "what did I forget here?" or "in two minutes". It wasn't two minutes, it was almost twenty. I waited for my food almost fifty minutes. I guess the saving grace for this is the quality. I got breaded chicken breasts with sesame seeds, my one friend chicken fillet, and my other got a schnitzel. Everything was great, loved its taste. Except the schnitzel, but that might've been another unlucky coincidence. Another thing to add, were the prices. For me, they were really affordable, but I don't know about the locals. I paid barely 1500 dinars for a full, delicious plate, and a fanta at that. Also, the decor was very adorable, the fairy lights added a lot of soul to the place. I'm just sad I wasn't able to come there a bit later, when they are turned on. The last, but the best thing definitely, was our server. He was constantly jumping around other tables, so I admire his work, it cannot be easy to serve so many people at once. I regret not getting his name, since I would recommend him here, so instead I'm going to describe him: a little bit on the chubbier side, round face, black hair and beard. Even though my food came so late, I didn't mind it, considering how nice the server was. I just wish to know his name, so if anyone knows it,...
Read moreWe had two completely different experiences at this place. The first time we went, it was great. It was a Friday afternoon, not too crowded, the food was very well-prepared, and the staff was helpful and eager to assist us. Everything went smoothly, so we decided to visit again. The second time, however, was on a Sunday afternoon, and it was very crowded. It was a disaster! They had completely lost control. The waiters were running around in a panic with no one actually serving the tables, our order arrived wrong and late, and when we tried to ask for it to be corrected, we were treated rudely—even by the owner of the establishment. The food was similar to the whole experience, and the service was just as poor as the attitude. The first time the dishes came with sauces, but the second time they didn’t. first time the potatoes and the meat were freshly baked but second time they were cold. So, if you plan to visit, choose a day when it’s not too crowded so that you have a value for money experience. We recommend the cevapi, either with or without pita, as well as the...
