I don't normally care about service if the food is good, but I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in a restaurant.
I called the restaurant at 8.30pm to ask what time the kitchen closed, and was told 9.30pm. I arrived 15 minutes later and music was playing, the door had an sign saying it was open, but was locked. I knocked, no response. I called, no response. I called again and the owner(?) answered and seemed surprised that no one was at the restaurant. She told me to wait there while she called the staff. Two minutes later, a staff member unlocks the front door, and let's us in. She doesn't offer any apology.
We were the only two people seated in the restaurant, and the staff member didn't even offer us water. She was chatting to the other kitchen staff. It felt like an inconvenience that she had to open the restaurant for us, though the place was supposed to open for at least another hour. Later, she came to the table and asked if we had called to open the restaurant. We just felt so awkward being there when we were clearly not wanted. At the end, this same staff member also asked for a tip.
It's a shame as the food was good and the decor was nice. The mushroom soup was particularly good. I suspect the owner has no idea the staff are...
Read moreAtmosphere: top! BUT: STEAK LOVER'S AVOUD IT! I ordered a medium 400gr rump steak. Meat quality good and the cut was also great, but it was rare. I complained. They brought me the same steak again but still more rare than medium. I complained again. They brought me a completely new steak. Way flatter than the last one (waiter told me the chef knocked it), not 400gr for sure and VERY SALTY. I told the waiter: sorry but it is too salty. They brought me the third steak: still smaller than the first one and again: medium rare and not medium. I was too tired of complaining and ate it with my cold vegetables. Wine was great though.
When we ordered the bill they told us they give us 10% discount on the steak. Unfortunately I didn't check that and there was no discount at all! When I realized that I told the waiter about it and he answered "boss told me to give no discount".
So in the end we paid 106 € for a not so nice experience. We feel we ended up in a tourist trap. So please fellow tourists: don't go there and waste your...
Read moreWriting this after exiting the restaurant. We went here despite the more negative recent reviews because we were hungry, and we regret it. The reviews did not lie, the food is bland and below average. The “alpine vibe” or whatever is a gimmick. The Wiener schnitzel was so oily none of us finished it. The goulash was… disappointingly bland. Honestly I don’t think gnocchi belongs in goulash, it tastes almost pre-digested because it practically overcooks in the goulash, then melts in your mouth in a weird way. Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be, but not for us. We also had the beef soup because it had a Slovenian flag near it, implying it’s a national/local dish. It was also bland, and we agreed it tasted more like chicken broth with beef and noodles in it. Even if it was beef broth, it was very weak, and we were not sure how it’s a national dish because we eat it regularly and we are not from Slovenia. It was edible, but we left disappointed. It was also not particularly cheap for...
