The food wasn’t horrible, however it wasn’t amazing either.
The whole experience was ruined by the rude elderly “reception” lady. We entered the restaurant via what looked like main entrance, we waited for a while to see if we get seated, nobody even bothered saying hello. Thus we went and started looking for a table. All of a sudden we’re getting shouted at by this lady saying there is a restaurant reception blabla. I had a go at her and told her that we walked through the whole restaurant, no signs, no hellos, nobody cares and all of sudden she’s giving us shit???!
This was the moment I truly wanted to leave, but didn’t wanna look for other well rated restaurants. We get a seat and the lady tells us that we got 1.5 hours to order and finish everything as they want to do multiple dinner services per night - again - what the hell???
The waiter knew how to behave and was quite polite. We ordered lamb shank and a pasta. Both mediocre tastes. Wouldn’t come back for it.
The staff needs to be replaced or sent to a hospitality training. I understand that you’re trying to milk your appearance in Michelin, but this is too much!
EDIT: changing the rating to 1* due to the owners dismissive reply. so let me understand this correctly: it was our imagination getting shouted at across the whole restaurant (caused by our confusion on where the entry is)???!!!! Are you for real????? Send a mystery shopper and ask them to observe how many people get the same experience - at least 3 other couples just put on a sour face and left during our precisely timed visit no it is absolutely NOT a standard to be given a time limit at a good restaurant, which UNIVERSE are you...
Read moreThe best dining experience since our Croatia/Slovenia trip 10 days ago. I’m so glad that I did my research and made a reservation at this homey restaurant, located only five minutes of walk away from Hotel Park but tucked in at the back of a gravel path not easily seen from the main street. Our server was a tall gentleman who appeared to be in his 60s, and was courteous, friendly, with just the right touch of humor. His personalized service made the whole dining experience felt like a Mozart serenade. Immediately after sitting down, we were given a pre-appetizer snack made of beef liver pate on top of small flaky pastry rolls, followed by a generous amount of various bread that we dipped in the recommended pumpkin seed oil, which tasted amazing. The beef tartar came with a raw egg yolk and shredded butter, and when spread on top of a thin slice of crispy toasted bread, created a wonderful harmony of flavors and texture. The porcini cappuccino soup has a thickened texture without added cream, allowing the flavor of mushroom to fully come through. For main course, we ordered salad with aged beef, lamb shank, stuffed chicken breast, and slowly cooked pork belly, each perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. The portion was generous but not overwhelming. This is the type of food that is unpretentious, prepared with solid ingredients, and with experienced understanding of the property of the main material. I told our server that the restaurant deserves a Michelin star, and I hope one day...
Read moreWe had dinner at The Old Cellar last night to celebrate my fiancée’s birthday, which we had mentioned when making our reservation. The setting was beautiful, and we were seated at a lovely table with a great view. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, and we really enjoyed the Sanctum Red Barrel Syrah, which was excellent.
Unfortunately, the experience fell short in a few key ways. After our appetizers, we waited quite a long time for our mains. When the food finally arrived, my rib eye came out extremely rare, well undercooked even by rare standards, which both I and our server noticed right away. It was sent back and re-fired, but when it returned, it was still very rare. Again, our server noticed immediately and took it back. By the time it came out the second time, my steak had multiple cuts in it and my fiancée was already halfway through her meal. While our server handled the situation as best he could and was clearly doing his best, I was surprised the restaurant did not offer anything to make up for the delay or inconvenience.
Additionally, several other tables celebrating birthdays received a small dessert or acknowledgment from the staff, but we received neither, despite having let them know in advance we were there for a special occasion.
Overall, the view and wine were great and the service from our waiter was kind, but given the circumstances, the hospitality felt underwhelming. Disappointing, especially for what was meant to be a...
