Stumbled across this place.
Service was sloppy and rude. Asked for a menu, we were shown a lunch set menu and told it was available for another 20-25 minutes. Less than 10 minutes later we came back. We were given an al a carte dinner menu. This had not been offered when requested 10mins prior and we were no longer allowed to order lunch menu as it finished at 1700 not 1715/20 as advised by the server.
Table cloth was dirty, and these were just flipped between customers.
Table not cleared fully from bread. No new cutlery brought for main course and no water replenished when empty.
Servers were abrupt when taking orders, serving, and on their phones throughout. The server informed us the rabbit ravioli was not available, asked if we wanted something else but did not offer a menu nor offer a new wine choice when the chosen starter was not available. When the Panna cotta starter (corn) was requested the server rudely stated Panna cotta was a dessert despite it clearing stating on the menu.
Overall terrible service, have had much better service in busy restaurants that don't hold any status. Train your servers, they are letting your establishment down.
Food:
Disappointed that rabbit ravioli was not available after only 5 mins of dinner service. Not acceptable with a small menu.
Ordered the corn (Panna cotta) with kimchi. No kimchi on the dish and nil taste within.
Food was presented well but honestly let down by very poor service.
Atmosphere
So I tried to get more stars for this place by using the WC. Awful. The ladies toilet had facel matter splashed on the seat so I had to hoover. This is not acceptable in a restaurant with only 5 occupied tables.
Overall very disappointing. Service completely...
Read moreI do not like the fact that I have to give one star, rather than none, but I wanted to ensure I reviewed Altroke appropriately for other visitors. I personally use Google Reviews, Trip Advisor and Instagram as a bit of a gospel when it comes to using restaurants, so I was happy to visit Altroke when it appeared that they had good reviews. However, it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had, including in my own country and travelling abroad.
My risotto starter with Istrian sausage was mediocre but edible, my husbands beef soup was pure salt (basically a stock cube made up with water). The mains arrived and after one taste of mine, I sent it back. Tasteless roast beef served on a pile of heavily oiled vegetables and burnt potato wedges I could snap in half. My husbands wedges were slightly better but the veg was still oily. The steak was poor quality and was lacking the sides, it was supposed to come with. I wish I had taken pictures to highlight how awful it was, but I get annoyed by people who constantly take pictures of their food!
However, whilst the food was truly terrible and not worth the price (now I can see other reviews saying this also!) it was the staff who were atrocious. The gentleman calling himself the manager (we sincerely doubt this was the case) yelled at us in the restaurant and threatened us when we said we were displeased at our food quality / service.
I am not a fan of leaving bad reviews so I will say that the house bottle of red wine was a nice choice, and not too badly priced at €20. However, I would avoid this restaurant at all costs, as it could sully your experience of Slovenian dining when there are such beautiful restaurants / staff in...
Read moreReview of Altroke
The location of Altroke is beautiful and full of potential, but unfortunately, the dining experience fell far below expectations.
The food was average at best — bland and served lukewarm. I was particularly curious about the Fuži with truffles, which turned out to be nothing more than plain boiled fuži pasta with salt, pepper, and a light sprinkle of grated black truffle. For a dish that should showcase rich flavors, this was disappointing; typically, one would expect tartufata, truffle cheese, oil, and freshly grated truffle to elevate the experience.
Service was even more underwhelming. Our main course plates remained on the table for about 15 minutes before anyone came to clear them, despite there being only three occupied tables on the terrace. No one checked on us for additional drinks or our satisfaction. When I finally called a waiter, he acknowledged but never returned; instead, a young waitress eventually came to clear the table. Even then, the ashtray — full since our arrival — remained untouched.
The two waiters serving the terrace appeared disengaged, showing little regard for even the most basic standards of hospitality. What made the situation worse was the scene inside the restaurant, where chefs and waiters in uniform stood around the bar chatting, giving the impression of a casual gathering rather than a professional service environment.
Altroke has a wonderful location and great potential, but unless the owner takes steps to train staff in proper service etiquette and improve the quality of the dishes, it risks leaving guests with the same disappointing...
