I recently dined at Druga Violina with a group of friends, and it was an unforgettable experience. This charming restaurant, nestled in the heart of Ljubljana's old town, offers not only a warm and welcoming atmosphere but also a true taste of traditional Slovenian cuisine.
I had the pleasure of trying the Ljubljanan goulash, and I must say, it was exceptional. The goulash was rich and flavorful, with tender chunks of beef simmered to perfection in a hearty, paprika-infused sauce. The depth of flavor was impressive, with just the right balance of spices that made each bite incredibly satisfying. It was served with a side of soft, comforting polenta, which paired perfectly with the robust goulash.
We also shared some fish fillets, and they were equally delightful. The fillets were lightly breaded and pan-fried to a golden crisp, with the fish inside remaining moist and flaky. The dish was accompanied by a fresh, tangy salad that complemented the fish beautifully. The flavors were simple yet expertly executed, showcasing the quality of the ingredients.
What made our visit even more special was the kindness of the employees. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Their dedication to providing excellent service, combined with the restaurant's mission to support and integrate people with disabilities into the workforce, added a meaningful touch to our dining experience.
Overall, Druga Violina is a must-visit in Ljubljana, whether you're a local or a tourist. The combination of delicious traditional food, a cozy atmosphere, and the restaurant’s inspiring social mission makes it stand out....
Read moreWe had great expectations from this dinner and reviewed many restaurants before making reservation. We thought it’s authentic and good tasting ✖️ Actually the soups are like made with Maggie instant powder , super salty. There were just some noodle in salty water .They offered to change to vegetable soup. Same salty but with some photos and roots texture. That’s unbearable.
Service: one waitress can speak poor English a bit for ordering. It seemed she lacked some training of the English menu. And other waitresses just put plates and took away plates very rude without attention without expressions.
Food: main course just normal. Authentic things are the sausage and the desserts like skrujli ( buckwheat ones are good). Sausage is ok., but maybe it’s a problem of 🇸🇮, they really don’t have much in food specialties…. Even german foods and desserts seem delicious and various in comparison with Ljubljana…
If anyone who gives 5 stars big praise of this place, I can just say you‘re the lucky guy who is easily satisfied by any restaurant experience and...
Read moreTERRIBLE SERVICE. UNFRIENDLY STAFF.
The restaurant was recommended to me by a tour guide. In my personal opinion the food was just ok taste wise, not great and not bad, just normal food. My complain about food is related to the cheese dumplings which were totally blunt and flavourless. I understand that taste opinions are very personal. My real complain is about the service. I found the staff to be very unhelpful from the moment I’ve step in the restaurant until the moment I left. During my dinner there was an episode where one of the staff start raising her voice towards an elder couple. And no, it wasn’t because the couple had bad hearing. Once she realised that she did a mistake with their order, she just turned the back to them and left without giving an apology. This gives a terrible image to the business and it was witnessed by all the customers.
PS: the restaurant has potencial but need a lot of improvements. Also, Ive found the menu to be...
