Avoid this place. Let me begin by noting that after spending five days in Slovenia, Ive had both excellent and mediocre culinary experiences, though nothing approaching what I experienced at Landerik. Most glaringly, the service was absolutely horrendous. This was the worst service I have had in Europe in over ten years of traveling to France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, and many others. For example, we asked the server what he thought of the soup and he said "hmmm...it's beef soup". Then my wife asked to clarify "We just want to know if you think its good or what it brings". To which he replied " what do you think I'm going to say, its good". He said so with a dismissive and condescending attitude that I've rarely experienced before. Both servers today (Sunday, September 15th 2024) had stern looks, no smiles, no kindness toward their guests. They were instead rude and condescending. These people look like they hate their jobs and I cannot for the life of me understand how this restaurant could have garnered 4.5 stars, particularly when you compare it to the service and culinary experience at a place like "Most". Let me now discuss the food. Skipping the complimentary appetizer which was not only forgettable but also underwhelming (the bread was not fresh and the paste flavorless), I had as my main dish a tagliatelle, carbonara style, that tasted like nothing. I ate at "Most" the day before and their tagliatelle was fantastic, full of flavor and cooked to perfection (al dente). Despite having a few tiny pieces of bacon and truffle, Landerik's tagliatelle might as well have been a plate of overcooked pasta with no ingredients, not even salt. It was insipid. I had pasta at IVO in Piran that was half the price and just orders of magnitude better than this pasta. I don't think I've ever had a worst pasta dish in my life and I do not exaggerate. My wife's ravioli, the Chef's pasta, was equally insipid and lacking in flavor. What is most glaring about this place is the gap between the presentation versus the quality and flavor of the dishes - nothing to do with lne another. Finally, the ambiance of the place was steril, going with a modern look that had as much character as a mailbox. The lack of music, bright lights reminiscent of a hospital room, and the rushed, stern, and bad-adjusted looks of its waiters, all conspired to make this place depressing. I do not recommend that you give your business to Landerik, particularly when there are so many other restaurants in Solvenia that care about service, quality, and the customer's experience. If I had to summarize Landerick in a single word it would be: flavorless. Flavorless food. Flavorless ambiance. Flavorless (rather bitter) service.
P.S. I seldom take the time to write a review if I dont think I am being helpful, either to my fellow food enthusiasts or to the managers and owners of restaurants or places I wish to better. I truly hope the owner of Landerik takes my comments seriously and would be more than happy to provide more nuanced criticism if asked. Slovenia is a beautiful place that could punch far higher in tourism than it does currently; part of that process should entail listening carefully to...
Read moreLanderik, despite its Michelin recognition, fell quite short of my expectations compared to other starred and rated establishments I’ve visited. While the courses were visually stunning with each plate thoughtfully arranged, the flavors often lacked the depth and cohesion necessary to make them truly shine. The creative intent was evident, but the execution did not bring the ingredients into harmonious balance both individually and as a whole.
Among the offerings, two courses stood out: the second course, a roasted cauliflower dish with hazelnuts, and the final course, Landerik’s take on Kaiserschmarrn. Unfortunately, the fifth course—a deer dish—was extremely disappointing. One portion of the deer was clearly either improperly cut or cooked as the muscle fibers were so tough that it was impossible to cut with my provided knife. The accompanying vegetable soufflé style dish was dense, bland, and did little to complement the protein. When I attempted to switch to the fish, I was informed that it was too late. With my main course rendered inedible, I sent it back to the kitchen with only one bite taken. I requested to be charged for four courses instead of five given that I’d hardly touched the main dish, but this was denied.
Additionally, the non-alcoholic beverage selection left much to be desired. Aside from water and coffee, the primary options were juices—most of which were unavailable when I was seated. The one available choice, strawberry rhubarb, turned out to be a bottled variety rather than a house-made creation, which felt underwhelming given the price and presentation.
I chose to dine outdoors given the warm evening, but the experience was marred by interruptions. On two occasions, individuals approached diners, including myself, asking for money—something the restaurant staff could not necessarily control but which heavily detracted from the overall experience. Given the cost of the meal, such disruptions felt inappropriate for a fine dining setting.
As this was my final dinner in Ljubljana, I had hoped for a memorable, celebratory meal. Instead, Landerik delivered an experience that was intermittently enjoyable but ultimately inconsistent, leaving me wishing for the finesse and excellence that one expects from a Michelin-rated...
Read moreFirst I will start with the food, I took the 5 courses menu, and I have to say it was boring, flavor was super plane, nothing special. They use some concepts of molecular kitchen which looks nice but when you taste it is just boring. All the sauces were super liquid (I am wondering if they now how to make one). The tartar was too strong the flavor I was thinking i would get sick, nothing really nice. The risotto had a lot of fish flavor but not a nice one, the ones that make you hate the fish. The only highlight was the Kaiserschmand, it was really good, but again the vanilla sauce was super liquid and it didn’t taste like real vanilla, more like artificial flavor. Ahhh, and do not ask for wines, they don’t have any idea what to recommend.
And now the biggest issue, The service. What a horrible service, you can see they are annoyed of people. We made a reservation and it was ok they gave us a place. Some other people from our hotel, the Intercontinental Hotel, did reservation at the same hour but according to the restaurant it was one hour before, they try to show the proof of the reservation but they didn’t want it to see, the service people were very rude (all in front of us) and they gave them a place but the guests decided to go.
With us they were like: there is the meal and barely explained it. All the time with a bad face.
At the end was raining super heavy, and we asked if they could call us a taxi or something to go and their answer was they were to busy, when there was only 3 tables with people in the restaurant.
So nothing worth the 90€ per person in...
