The food was above average, nicely presented and tasty. Pork was very nicely done, flavorful, not dried out and overall of high quality. Beef was tender, tasty and nicely rounded.

The cheese plate was good, albeit a tad small for the price (just enough for two as a very limited starter).

The service on the other hand was not of the quality and standard of a fine dining establishment. If we go out with friends and only some have main dishes, you don't empty the table of other food that was not yet eaten. That is just needlessly wasteful. A plate of cheese should stay on the table until it is empty. Asking if you can take the plate while already having it in your hand isn't really asking, now is it.

Normally I let these things slide, since you can't demand perfection from everyone, however this restaurant has implemented tipping. If you are importing American models for tipping and service, you should also import the quality of the service. Saying that tipping is not required in the same way as whisking unfinished food away from the table, doesn't technically make it required. It does however make it socially questionable to deviate from the expected response.

In other words - There are a lot of different places in Ljubljana that serve the same quality food and won't leave you feeling "off" with their demeanor. While I feel bad for the cooks that make good food, I can't in good conscious recommend a place that so clearly wants to jack up prices without at least trying to better it's quality of service.

For the restaurant: Don't import American models if you don't want to put in the work those models require. We have laws regarding wages and tipping should not be the primary motivator for servers to...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable evening at Breg – Culinary delight & heartfelt hospitality at its best!

We visited Breg in Ljubljana as a couple and were absolutely thrilled – truly one of the best dining experiences we've ever had!

From the very beginning, we were welcomed with exceptional warmth and hospitality. Our waiter, Stankov, was not only incredibly kind and attentive, but also one of the most charming and genuinely friendly hosts we've ever encountered. His service alone would be reason enough to return.

The starters were outstanding – perfectly balanced in flavor, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. But the main courses, especially the pork, were simply exceptional – tender, rich in flavor, and prepared to the highest standard.

To finish, we were kindly offered a taste of Stankov's homemade liqueur. It was so smooth and delicious that we ended up buying a bottle that same evening. Now, every time we enjoy a small glass at home, it brings back memories of that wonderful evening at Breg.

We would love to come back regularly – but unfortunately, we live more than 700 km away in Germany. That’s why we wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone visiting Ljubljana. The value for money, quality of the food, and genuine hospitality are simply unmatched. A true gem...

Not what you'd expect for a Michelin restaurant. Subpar service. Showed up for our reservation. It was a wait to be seated and my wife and I were seated without any drinks or food menu. Waited close to 10 minutes to get acknowledged and a menu. When ordering a wine, the waiter had zero knowledge on the wine list as people 'usually only order Slovenian wines'. We ordered a Bordeaux. Bread was delivered to the table. Not sure if the server was having an off night or could not care for us but no oil, salt or pepper where every other table had it. Appetizers were average. Beef tartare was lacking and was overwhelmed with potatoes more than anything which is sad for 18 euro. Eggplant foccacia had more olive than eggplant. Was not bad was average at best. Will admit, filet mignon was amazing and cooked perfectly. Constantly needed to fill our own glass with wine.

If this wasn't a Michelin restaurant this review doesn't happen but I've had better food for better value and significantly better service at places in Lubiana than this. This includes cafes, pubs and pizza places.
