The look of the place was top class. The servers were friendly and efficient. Literally everything was superb. To the staff and team behind the counter, I would give a 4 star experience.
Except the end product. Having never seen a Starbucks before, my partner and I decided to splurge a little on this amazing thing we'd heard of. We ordered different coffees. We were both offered whipped cream, I declined and got whipped cream anyway. But that's besides the point.
I then figured that the 260 odd Rand bill would be worth it, because, you know its Starbucks, it must be worth it. We both took a sip of our drink. I then asked if I could taste my partners. And it was the exact same slop. Staggeringly sweet liquid that I assume was meant to but failed to hide the taste of burnt coffee. Not only was it not worth it, but we were both forced in the the end to discard them because they were far too sweet.
I assumed that this was possibly just a mistake or occurrence at this branch because it was new and perhaps the staff were under trained. So I took to reddit, and gave my experience and asked if this was the norm. As I type this the review it has 399 upvotes at a 97% upvote rate with 174 comments. At a guess I would say that, again, about 97% have said that this is a current norm of Starbucks products/and or they will avoid the place unless necessary. The other 3% said they enjoyed the sweetness.
Further questions lead me to how Starbucks tried to build a monopoly in Australia and are failing so dismally because Australians in general enjoy a quality coffee. The products served by this company are, quite honestly, pretty disgusting if you own taste buds.
I would not recommend unless you have a burning desire to gain diabetes. Have a real coffee somewhere and buy lunch with...
Read moreI recently visited the Starbucks at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and it was an utterly disappointing experience. When I placed my order—an iced matcha with a pump of caramel syrup—the server looked at me with utter disgust, laughed, and said, "That’s not going to taste nice," instead of offering a suggestion.
He ended up not adding the syrup I asked for. My sister had to go and request it because I couldn’t handle how rude they were.
I noticed a cup with my name on it but waited for them to call me as they usually do, only for it to just sit there. When I eventually went up to ask if it was mine, the barista rolled their eyes and said, "If your name is on it, it’s yours," with the most attitude.
For a place that charges premium prices, the service is shockingly poor. I won’t be wasting my money at this branch again, the Seapoint branch...
Read moreI would like to start by saying I only went there with my friend to get a drink so we did we both ordered a chocolate Frappuccino it was good! But I would like to complain because the lady that served me added a tip without asking me and made the total 69 instead of 63 and 63 is a tall and 69 is a venti or whatever size so i paid more for less ? She also tapped very fast on the card machine so I couldn't clearly see what she was doing. I did not want to complain because there was a long line. The lady that served me also not the nicest when serving me . And I think she only did this because I was a teenager so...
