From the moment we walked into Mitera, I knew we were in for something special. The ambience, the warm welcome, and the genuine hospitality of every single staff member were flawless. Every waiter we passed greeted us with a smile, setting the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience. Our waiter for the day, Xolisi (I hope I’ve spelled that correctly), was an absolute star – friendly, welcoming, and wonderfully informative. It’s been a very long time since I’ve given a restaurant a solid 10/10, but Mitera truly stood out for me. For starters, we had the stuffed calamari – a dish that lives up to every bit of its hype. Absolutely delectable, and the butterfly garlic sauce? I could happily have it served with flatbread alone and still call it an exceptional meal. For mains, we opted for half a peri-peri chicken and the king prawns with rice. The portions were generous and satisfying. The chicken was juicy, bursting with flavour, and paired beautifully with the cucumber yogurt salad. But the prawns? They were the star of the show – succulent king prawns coated in rich garlic butter, cooked to perfection. Despite being completely full, we couldn’t resist dessert and ordered the baklava with ice cream. Once again – faultless. The bill for all of this, including two soft drinks, came to only R800. In my opinion, that’s incredible value for money. I’ve eaten far less impressive meals at so-called “upper-class” restaurants for double the price. If you’re thinking about visiting Mitera, let this review be your sign. Exceptional food, warm hospitality, and unbeatable value – they’ve truly earned my...
Read moreEverything was amazing, the food was great including the great service from the waitors specially our waitor he was consistent and served us with personality from the time we sat till we left. Unfortunately there was an incident with the lady at the door which was not taken up even after we had brought up to our waitor but he did try lighten up the mood and that was another factor that made him an excellent waitor. We were questioned if we had made a reservation and we were honest and said no thereafter we were instructed to wait. While we were waiting a group of peoole came through and same procedure as mine was followed but once they mentioned they did not book the lady at the door attended to them and lead them in. This was very disturbing and left me upset, puzzled and angry since first preference was given to the group of people even though we were in the same situation, it is saddening to know that such a thing is happening in this time. I hope sharing my experience will bring attention to the fact that the lady at the door clearly has different ways of treating different people and not equally as customers. In conclusion thank you for such a good time and i hope next time there will be...
Read moreScam Alert – R800 Deposit Lost I made a reservation at Mitera Umhlanga over the phone, and was asked to pay a R800 deposit, with the promise that it would be fully deducted from our bill. I even confirmed the booking via email and received a reservation number.
When we arrived, no one mentioned any problem with the booking — we were seated as normal. But at the end of the meal, the staff claimed there was no record of any deposit, and they refused to deduct it from our bill.
The most shocking part? One of the waiters admitted: “This has happened before — this is the third time. It’s probably a scam.”
So here’s the question: If the restaurant is aware that scammers are impersonating them, why hasn’t anything been done? Why did I receive a reservation number and get seated — only to be told at the end that there was no booking or payment?
This is completely unacceptable. If a business knows that people are being scammed in their name, they have a responsibility to warn customers and take action — not let guests suffer the loss.
Strong warning: Do NOT make any payments over the phone or email. Your deposit may disappear with no...
