Steak & Ale — Restaurant in KwaZulu-Natal

The worst experience I have EVER had at a restaurant! When we walked in a lovely lady greeted us and from there absolutely disgusting service. Our waiter did not greet us one of us had to greet her 3 times for her to actually greet us. We waited 15 minutes for 3 beers and 2 ice teas. One of our friends had bought a vegan meal as this restaurant doesn't cater for vegetarians or vegans. Before anything our waiter says "what are you doing" no "sorry sir we don't allow that" or anything just an attitude she then went to speak to the manager making our vegan friend feel completely uncomfortable. The older waitress came back did not greet us or anything but carried on telling our friend that this was just not done however they would make an exception for us and put it in a bowl and heat it up which was fine. We waited for a while before our food came and then even longer for one of the meals our waiter had just forgotten to bring. The meal that was forgotten was a carpaccio which is a thinly sliced raw beef which was served on a piping hot plate if all that wasn't bad enough the carpaccio had a live slug in it. Horrified we called a waiter and it was taken away. The manager came to apologize but that was half hearted. Our waiter came to our table upset and proceed to tell us she would not order half the meals we HAD ordered as she was scared there would be slugs in them. We immediately asked for the bill which then they offered around of drinks. We declined and they told us they had taken 10% off the bill... For the worst experience I feel more could have been done. When leaving we explained how bad our experience was to which our waiter started to argue with us.

My friends and I visited this place to watch the Rugby world cup final.

The place was packed, which meant like a 20-minute wait time to order drinks, which was fine and understandable. There was however a short black guy waiting tables who basically told us we need to leave if we aren't ordering anything, we tried to explain that we were still waiting for our drinks after which he swore at us provoking a violent response so we'd get kicked out. Luckily, the bouncer was understanding and had seen that we've been waiting for our guy to get drinks from the bar.

It was my third time visiting this establishment but a first time getting sworn at for choosing to order from the bar. I live in the Umhlanga area, and even at the most shadiest of establishments, I have never been sworn at!

I had my first visit to Steak and Ale Umhlanga today and was disappointed with the service. Mia, the barista/waitress, needs to ensure that all customers are treated equally.

Before the game even started, I asked for a cup of coffee, but she disappeared until I reminded her. When I asked again, she said the coffee machine was broken and that it was after 45 minutes of wait 😣.After the first half of the game, I requested the menu, but it took her 25 minutes to bring it to me, even after we had reminded her.

This is unacceptable. It seems like Mia is undermining customers, and I don’t appreciate that kind of treatment. I hope you can address this issue for the benefit of...
