I flew into Korea for the first time in my life on 19 November 2020. I have been in Seoul for the past 2+ weeks, discovering that all the Korean (& other) restaurants cook with MSG (monosodium glutamate). I am allergic and get very ill eating MSG.
So, as a vegetarian, I have basically been starving myself until today, when I discovered an Indian Restaurant in Myeongdong, where I am staying. (Indian food does not usually use MSG, though for some dishes here in Korea, the cooks do add MSG.)
To my surprise and joy, this restaurant is clean, with quiet background music AND best of all, great cooking! (And most of their dishes have no MSG.)
I just finished eating Palak Paneer, with a special request to exchange the paneer with chickpeas / chan's / garbanzo beans. The chef was very accommodating, and prepared for me the Best Ever Indian Dish that I have tasted in my 70 years of international travel (including 10 years of which were spent in northern India and in Nepal).
I never write reviews, and certainly not publically on the Internet.
But today I am writing this one, because I am so blown away by the quality and refinement that the dish I just consumed had.
For sure, if you want to have a wonderful, top of the line (internationally!) Indian meal, come to the Gurkha Restaurant in Myeongdong!

Read moreAmbience of the restaurant is nice and cozy. Service is fast. On Friday evenings the restaurant gets bit crowded but on other days seems not so crowded, well I visited 4 times. Food wise, the special thali seems to be good option, can't be disappointed with this option. Tried the mutton biryani and mutton balls, both were mediocre. Biryani seems to be white rice mixed well with biryani masala and not cooked with it as there is white rice as per the pics posted with this review. Indian restaurant and short on biryani is big no and the chef needs a wake up call. They play jazz music for an subcontinent restaurant which is a bit out but it does add to the cozy ambience.
Next time plan to try the day fry and stuff and see how it goes.
Plus point for this restaurant is value for money. Compared to other halal restaurants nearby this...

I recently visited Gurkha Restaurant with my family and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. We waited an incredibly long 40 minutes without receiving any food. When the first dish finally arrived, it was a single soup that had a hair in it. Disgusted, we sent it back. Even after that, there was no sign of our food for another five minutes. The service was not just slow but apathetic. Both the server and another staff member appeared to be laughing in the back after we decided to walk out. This lack of professionalism and care for their customers is unacceptable. I won’t be returning, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend this...
