Last week when on holiday in Adeje, my girlfriend chose to book an afternoon for me and her at the beach club after seeing it on TikTok and it looked very nice. The price was €120 in total with €100 of that to spend on food & drinks.
When we arrived, we were given a buzzer which you press to get a member of staff to come to your sunbeds to take food & drinks orders. After being told this, we were told that a member of staff near the pool would show us to our sunbeds. We walked to the pool, no staff there ready to guide us. We found our sunbeds ourselves, which were situated right next to a very loud speaker blasting music. We eventually got comfortable, then used the QR code to access the menu. After around 5-10 minutes from when we found our sunbeds, we pressed the buzzer to order our first drinks.
We waited for around 20 minutes and no staff came over to us. We were confused, wondering whether we had actually pressed the "call" button properly, so we pressed it again and I started a timer on my phone.
By this point, I had already noticed a couple not too far from us had been served at least twice since we first tried to order. I also noticed that there were only about 6 members of staff walking around taking orders from people, which was a bit worrying considering the size of the place.
At this time, I also began to look at reviews on TripAdvisor hoping to discover a way to make the staff to serve you. There were more negative reviews than positive, which wasn't a good sign. There were many reviews about pressing the buzzer 20+ times and not being served, the staff ignoring you, very slow service, etc, etc. Amongst the reviews about the buzzer/service, many reviews about weak alcohol, bad food, rude staff, etc.
We realised that this is set up so that you don't spend all of your €100 on food or drinks (if you get the opportunity to order anything...) and ideally you leave with the venue taking the remaining money you inevitably haven't spent - that way, they don't have to lose out on their food & drinks stock, maximising their profits. Purposely poor service so you essentially give them the rest of your money & leave.
For the next 40 minutes we sat there in 30 degree heat with no drinks to keep hydrated and starving as we purposely didn't eat prior to arriving, in order to make the most of the €100 to spend on food & drinks.
After being sat there for over an hour with not a single order placed, seeing other people getting served multiple times, we got up & walked to the nearest bar (you cannot order directly from the bar, of course, they would lose their profits that way) and asked if any of our "call" attempts on the buzzer actually worked. We know they worked because a red light comes on when you click "call". The staff member said it is not working, banged it on the side of the bar a few times then said that it is "working regularly" (?). We then walked to the main reception, explained the situation, and they reluctantly gave us our €120 back after trying to convince us to stay.
As we left, I approached the first entrance above the beach club and asked the lady at the desk if when you click "call" and it lights up red, does that mean that the buzzer is working. She said all she knows "for certain" is that if you click "call" and there are no members of staff "in range", it doesn't go through to their system. If this is true, this is just another way the venue can guarantee making more profits without having to serve people in the hope that they leave without using the full €100 spend. Bear in mind, there were staff walking around near us, easily within a 20m range, so what the lady told us is likely false.
All in all, it was a massive waste of time. Do not go unless you are in a group of 10+, as the large groups of girls appeared the be having a great time, probably attracting the servers' attention (who are all young men) more so than me and my partner just sat there thirsty & hungry for over an hour... Easily the worst level of service I have ever experienced at any...
Read moreIf you read one review on your holiday.. let it be this one, so you don't waste your money.. Tenerife.. a place full of endless bars and restaurants.. catered for tourists.. because let's face it.. the majority of people here are tourists. But while on your walk around the island, sampling cocktails and great food.. don't waste your money at this place. Granted, it's a beautiful place. Great area to watch the sunset and enjoy some drinks.. and it looks very nice! But then, there are many places where you can have the same experience.. At Las Rocas, Beach Club, you will barely get a smile or a nice welcome from any staff member. They all look like they don't want to be there. You are, in fact, a nuisance just for walking into this place, it seems. We got that kind of welcome when we arrived for dinner at 5pm on Christmas day. I understand well that the staff may not want to be working and would prefer to be at home enjoying their holiday.. but it is their choice to be in this line of work, and with that, you have to sacrifice some holidays, unfortunately. (Talking from years of experience). Also.. it is not the paying customers fault that you have to work. Anyway.. we got a table in the outside area where there was a considerable amount of wind coming in from the ocean. We asked nicely if it would be possible to switch tables and sit inside.. That took over 3 staff members to decide, and we were told we could sit inside as long as we were gone by 7pm. Fine.. no problem. So we sat down and waited a while for someone to come take our order.. A server arrives and gives no human interaction.. just asks what we want, and off he went. We ordered pre drinks (cocktails and water), bread to start, mains and red wine to arrive with our mains.. 15 mins go by, and our red wine arrives, which was meant to come with our mains.. but nothing else. A while later, our cocktails and water arrive. The cocktails were fine.. standard cocktails. The bread arrives, with some dips and it was actually the highlight of the meal. 😂 The bread was great, and the girl who served it was the only staff member to smile. 😅 Some time went by, and our mains came, but no one had cleared our table.. so the server (a different one to whom took our order) had to put our food down on a different table to clear our plates and starter bread platter to make room. The beef tenderloin was very good, chips were standard, and the sauce was not worth 5€ (as cheap as that it).. it was 50% peppercorns, which made it almost inedible. The ribs were absolutely not worth any kind of money. We ate.. and I got a lovely surprise of a fruit fly in my wine.. 🙂👍🏻 After we finished, we again waited a while until someone came to take our plates.. we never saw the server that took our order again.. After the table was cleared, we sat and sipped our water and waited for someone to ask if we wanted dessert or the bill.. over 30 minutes go by with 0 interaction of any staff member, so we ended up standing up and paying at the front desk... We mentioned this to the host, and all she said was, "we are very busy. ".. no apology. I will point out that only half the restaurant was occupied with around 8 staff members, if not more, running around like headless chickens... There was no organisation, no welcoming atmosphere, no customer service in any sense, and all this for 130€.... Standard food and drinks... horrendous service. Going out to dinner, especially on Christmas day, should be a nice, fun and happy experience.. unfortunately, we left very disappointed and wished we had gone to one of the other places we had already tried on our 12-day trip, but luckily, this has been our only bad experience. There are so many amazing restaurants around.. First Love Tinge of Turmeric The Bank Fiamma Just to name a few.. Don't waste your money at this place and go somewhere worth...
Read moreWe booked Las Rocas as a New Year’s Eve treat to spend the day and evening relaxing. Unfortunately, despite our excitement and high expectations, several issues negatively impacted our experience, leaving a bitter taste to the end of our holiday.
The Good
The food at the restaurant was nice, and the views, along with the ambience created by the DJ's music, provided a relaxing vibe.
The Bad
Miscommunication and Mismanagement We had confirmed two Balinese beds from 10 AM to 11 PM via email and Instagram. Yet, at 3:30 PM, we were abruptly asked to leave as the area was being cleared for the evening, despite assurances we could stay to enjoy the sunset. This left us without New Year’s Eve plans, as everything else nearby was fully booked.
Many other guests faced similar situations, leading to widespread frustration. It felt like a bait-and-switch tactic to overbook and prioritize revenue over guest experience.
Restroom Facilities By the end of the visit, there was no toilet paper or handwash available—unacceptable during a busy holiday period.
Food and Drink Service
No breakfast was offered or advertised, leaving my 11-year-old daughter hungry until 2 PM. This has not been communicated before arrival or even on arrival.
Drinks orders were incorrect, with unrequested items appearing on our bill.
The service buzzer on our bed didn’t work, and only one staff member was assigned to serve the entire area, leading to long waits and poor service.
Cocktails were subpar and didn’t match the venue’s premium branding.
Balinese Beds Initially, we were offered one bed and two chairs instead of the two beds we had booked. This was corrected only after we complained.
Billing Issues When we left the restaurant after lunch, we were told we owed money, only to discover a drink we hadn’t ordered had been mistakenly added to our bill. Even after leaving, we were inexplicably told we owed more money.
Staff Attitude Our concerns were met with a dismissive response: "It’s not my fault, I’m busy." This unprofessional attitude only added to our frustration.
Other Observations
Although I had my well-behaved daughter with me, other children at the venue were noisy. Had we been seated near them, I would have been frustrated by their disruptive behavior.
Resolution Offered
After raising our concerns, we were told we could stay, but the stress and anxiety caused by the experience meant we didn’t feel comfortable doing so. The only compensation offered was one free drink if we chose to return—a gesture that felt inadequate given the issues we encountered.
Final Thoughts
Be cautious if you are considering attending an event or special day here. Clarify exactly what is on offer beforehand in writing, and manage your expectations. The views and ambience might not be enough to outweigh the lack of organisation and poor service.
Overall, Las Rocas did not live up to its advertised standards, leaving us disappointed on what should have been...
