I visited Alegoria on a bustling Friday evening, and it’s clear this spot is in high demand. A constant queue at the door suggests it’s no hidden gem anymore, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you want to avoid a wait.
I started my dinner with oysters as an appetizer. They were impressively large, meaty and juicy, with a subtly briny flavor that was nicely chilled: an elegant and refreshing start to the evening.
Next came the grilled scallops: a sharing dish served in their shells. A light squeeze of lemon was all it took to lift the natural sweetness of the scallops. It was a simple, honest plate showcasing fresh ingredients at their best.
The highlight for me, and the main reason for choosing Alegoria, was the seafood paella. Beautifully presented with mussels, langoustines, and a scallop on top, it carried a rich umami and slightly smoky flavor. While I personally would have enjoyed a hint more brightness in the dish, my glass of Verdejo offered exactly the freshness I was craving. Portion size was just right; not overly heavy, but satisfying.
To end, I chose the crema catalana. It delivered everything it should: a crisp sugar crust, a creamy, pure base, and a comforting texture to round off the meal.
Prices are reasonable for the quality and presentation, and align well with similar restaurants in this part of Barcelona. Overall, Alegoria offers a vibrant dining experience with well-prepared dishes and a lively atmosphere. I’d definitely return next time I’m...
Read moreBreathtaking - but not in a good way We booked a New Year’s Eve dinner for four people and expected a lot more for 60 Euros per person. It did not even look appetizing. The salad was served on two small plates for four people and the dressing only consisted of oil. The ham was good though. The bread was soaked in oil and was overall just wet and soggy. The paella that followed was the best thing of the evening. The main course was a horrifying disaster. We ordered 2 beef sirloins with creamed mushrooms and 2 Iberian porks with potato paramentier. The beef we ordered was still completely raw inside and bloody even though we ordered it well done. Even the pork was still red inside. After we sent it back to the kitchen the beef we received was still not fully edible. We were really exited about the chocolate cake but even the desert was a disappointment. We were told that even though it was listed on the New Year’s Eve menu that there are only 2 chocolate cakes still available. Instead we were offered cheesecake or chocolate mousse. The presentation of the cake was questionable and looked like leftovers. The chocolate mousse rather tasted like a coffee mousse. At least all the waiters tried their best and remained friendly the whole time and we were given a Sangria for free. However, we would not come back again and were really disappointed. 60 Euros per person was heavily overpriced and felt like a...
Read moreMy gf and I found this place randomly while wandering around in Barcelona. Now we just want to tell everyone who is in or travels there, should check out this place.
We both did the premade menu option which included a salad, iberico ham, toasted bread with a fresh tomato spread. It was all very delicious.
For our entree we got to choose a paella. My gf got the seafood paella and I got the chicken paella. We enjoyed it so much that we cleaned our plates and finished both even though the size of the paellas were good sized.
To top it off, even though we weren’t super hungry, we decided to try the chocolate mousse as a dessert was included with our premade menu. It was the best mousse I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of mousse. We were just raving how much we loved the mousse and at the end she brought us one on the house with our check and even asked if we wanted the recipe. Of course we said yes and plan to try and make it but we know it won’t be as good as hers.
Overall we ate everything on our plates even though we were full before the paella was even gone. We just didn’t want to waste anything.
Would definitely recommend trying this place and if we make it back to Barcelona, we will be returning for some more...
