First, I want to say that the food on the main menu was amazing. The appetizers and the pasta we got were very tasty with perfectly balanced flavors. Unfortunately, the visit had a few bumps that made it not as nice. Here are three things that felt off to me:
Deserts were not good at all. They were not on the main menu & felt like an afterthought, so I’m not surprised they tasted poorly, but the rest of the food was so good! Just don’t do deserts if it’s not the passion/expertise of the chef.
Atmosphere was not great for us. Early into our meal, friends of the owner arrived. Initially, we thought nothing of it, but the friends kept walking a lot between bar and their sit, being loud, and looking at other guests/discussing them loudly (including giving us a few really uncomfortable looks). The space is very small, so this behavior was very noticeable and disruptive. Like the path to the bar was near our table, so it felt like someone was standing over our table at all times :( I am all for the welcoming/familiar environment in a restaurant with friends/family coming to visit. But I hope the owners can make it so that it’s not disruptive to the guests.
The service was very uneven. A few waiters/hosts were very kind and attentive, but others were distracted and absent. We didn’t have a single waiter assigned to our section, so we got very different treatment from different servers. The service never was bad, but it just was a bit slow at times with some servers being forgetful (brining us empty bottle of olive oil). Some of the waiters were also very visibly were drinking a lot behind the bar which I think added to them being distracted.
So, to sum up - the food was really really good if we don’t count deserts, the atmosphere and service left more to be desired. I think if you get here on a different day or for lunch, you’ll have a much better time as us. But I think you can find really good Italian food in the city with a better atmosphere and service for...
Read moreMy partner and I were feeling like Italian last night and saw this restaurant was the best rated in the area around La Rambla. We walked up to it and it seemed busy and they asked us if we had a reservation, we were sad because we thought we would miss out on this place, but they kindly squeezed us in a table for two. Whew! Do not skip this place...it's on a side a street so you have to look on the map to find it. We had fresh oysters (yumm) and a calamari salad for the starter (the best calamari combo salad I've ever had! I had the mushroom risotto for the main dish, which was the BEST risotto I've EVER had, and we had a second plate which was their first day serving it which was a pumpkin meat loaf dish, wow! Blown away with complex flavors! I eat out a lot, and I was just blown away by every single dish and every ingredient in the food! The Best! I don't have other words for how good...
Read moreOne week after impeccable food and service and I have already recommended Bacaro to two people for upcoming visits to Barcelona.
I visited Barcelona with my significant other with a recommendation to eat at Bacaro. I made this a birthday dinner to celebrate her, and upon catching wind of the occasion, the restarant manager opened a bottle of champagne with a knife! It would be hard to find a more memorable way to honor her day.
The location is ideal with a famous open-air market next door. The place is popular and the staff treat customers as part of their family. You may reserve a table in advance.
The wild boar pasta and calamari salad were exotic, perfectly executed and modestly priced. I can't wait to see the staff in Barcelona again. The service was far above...
